Liam Payne has been laid to rest.
Nearly a month after Payne died after falling three stories from a hotel balcony, friends, family members and loved ones gathered for a funeral Wednesday.
It was held in a 12th-century church in the English countryside northwest of London.
Well-known names attending the tragic gathering included Payne’s girlfriend, Kate Cassidy, his former One Direction bandmates: Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Zayn Malik and Niall Horan.
The artist’s friend, James Corden, was also in attendance, as were Simon Cowell – who helped launch the band’s career on The X Factor in 2010 – and his fiancée, Lauren Silverman.
According to The Sun, Payne’s black coffin had silver handles and was decorated with white roses.
A red wreath with the words “son” and a white “daddy” written on it was placed on top of a white carriage pulled by two horses, the same outlet reports.
As mentioned above, Payne died after falling several floors from the balcony of the Casasur Palermo Hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Drugs were found in the singer’s system and according to all official accounts, he did not commit suicide.
On November 7, a press release from the National Criminal and Correctional Prosecutor’s Office No. 14 revealed that the former One Direction member’s toxicology results showed traces of “alcohol, cocaine and prescription antidepressants” in his body.
Prosecutors also said at this time that “any form of self-harm and/or physical intervention by a third party had been ruled out” as contributing factors to his death.
In a brief statement following his death, Liam’s family said:
“We are heartbroken. Liam will always live on in our hearts and we will remember him for his kind, funny and brave spirit.
Other tributes have also gone viral recently, some notably from the members of One Direction themselves.
“We are completely devastated by the news of Liam’s passing. Over time, and when everyone is able, there will be more to say. But right now, we will take some time to grieve and grieve the loss of our brother who we loved so much,” One Direction wrote in a group statement.
