Zach Shallcross Catches Covid, Hosts The Bachelor’s First-Ever Virtual Rose Ceremony: Was It Fair To The Girls Who Went Home?

Yes, Zach Shallcross’s search for love was put on hold this week the Bachelor The star contracted Covid while filming in the UK.

But while Zack was stuck in his hotel room for a few days, the producers cooked up some clever ways for him to get to know the contestants.

First there was a Zach-less group date that made us feel like a dating competition show without any dating and no competition, in which a group of strangers develop just a close friendship, while traveling the world together is more than it seems Could be more interesting.

But shortly after, Charity walks out on a one-on-one date which is sad.

(but if you’re following Single Spoiler, so you know the donations don’t count.)

And then there was a remote cocktail party that was even sadder.

And then there was Greer, who started melting down over tea and then when her virtual date with Zach went awry, it all went awry, as it sounds.

Greer is very fond of hot, caffeinated beverages.

All told, this was easily one of the saddest, most awkward episodes the Bachelor in the history of the show.

And that’s really saying something.

The ladies did their best to enjoy their time in London, but double-decker bus tours and pub pints didn’t provide much joy.

The cast probably assumed that the scheduled rose ceremony would be postponed, but it did not.

Instead, Zach’s face loomed over the proceedings from a giant monitor like some Orwellian nightmare of the future, in which all dating takes place via screen.

Going into the ceremony, things weren’t looking good for Greer.

During the painfully awkward “virtual cocktail party” she compared Zach’s plight to the situation in which her own battle with Covid affected her quarterly sales figures.

For some reason, Zach was No This being it, and he shut down the comparison in brutal fashion.

Still all muddled by the trauma of his earlier tea, Greer breaks down in tears once again.

And when she predicted that she wouldn’t join the rest of the cast in the next round — well, everyone quietly agreed with that prediction.

In the end, though, she lived to cry another day.

In Greer’s place, it was Mercedes and Kylie who were sent home by Virtual Zach.

The latter has been quiet all season and probably won’t get much of a chance even if Zach stays healthy and plays as planned for the London trip.

But Mercedes – well, she and Zach may not have had the strongest relationship, but her dismissal is still one of the most disappointing in the show’s history because it doesn’t seem fair.

By all rights, this week’s rose ceremony should have been postponed, but with all the international travel involved, the show is operating on a very tight shooting schedule.

The fans didn’t mind when the pandemic banned the Bachelor for the same shooting location for each season, and those circumstances probably allowed for more flexibility.

Perhaps she attracts all the globetrotting potential contestants and serves as a consolation prize for those who are eliminated.

Whatever happens, the show must go on, and Zach will be breaking more hearts next week in another foreign country.

Let’s hope everyone stays healthy.
