“Y’all just hate the messenger, but the message is on point” — Internet reacts as Meek Mill calls out media coverage of UHC CEO

Meek Mill posted a series of tweets on Wednesday, December 11, 2024, expressing his opinion on the recent media coverage surrounding the murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson. He suggested the issue has received more coverage than the children who were murdered in his hometown of Philadelphia.

“100 children are murdered in my neighborhood, the press focuses on a CEO… I will never understand it! When someone gives me the challenge, I will collect 1000 guns on the streets of Philadelphia without snitching, just help clean up my community! I didn’t come this far to play! Just pain and growth,” Meek Mill said.

As soon as his tweets went viral on social media, several netizens started sharing their reactions. An Instagram user, @TheNeighborhoodTalk, posted the screenshots of his tweet on his account, to which another user responded and said:

“Everyone hates the messenger… but the message is precise”

Meek Mill’s tweets explored as the rapper opens up about being harassed by police when he legally purchased a gun.

In the wake of the recent shooting, Meek Mill also opened up about how he purchased a gun legally. He stated that he continues to face harassment despite legal purchasing while illegal firearms are sold.

“Guns are sold in droves on the streets, I choose to buy them in the store legally and yet they harass me like I’m buying guns for people… you guys don’t even want me to protect myself and my family legally! Racism lurks in my home state! Meek Mill said.

He also stated:

“I’ve been to the range in different cities more than 10 times, but in Pennsylvania we have police officers who investigate me and ask me why I’m buying guns. 10 rapper friends killed me and they couldn’t protect themselves! I’m working on my gun license, help me not investigate, I’m not a repeat offender you know!

In another tweet, Meek Mill also addressed the police’s accusation that the rapper “pointed guns at them” and then went on to claim that he “had to live like a criminal for years.”

Meek Mill’s words attracted intense attention when the Philadelphia police crime map and statistics recorded that there have been nearly 244 homicides this year at the time of this writing. However, in another tweet, he spoke about the violent murder of UnitedHealthcare’s CEO and wrote, “RIP to that CEO, his life matters too.”

On the other hand, Meek Mill has criticized the media twice this week, taking to X to express his concerns about how the media has been framing rappers Jay-Z and Diddy. He stated that “the goal is to start a false narrative” and then criticized the American media by calling it “programming.” So far, members of the media have not responded to any of the rapper’s tweets.
