Winona Ryder talks about her “husband” and being the envy of the world.
Winona Ryder confirmed this more than a decade ago. Beetle Juice The sequel. Now, it’s finally here.
Beetlejuice While promoting Beetlejuice, Winona discusses another classic film of hers: the iconic 1992 Bram Stoker’s Dracula With Keanu Reeves.
Part of that film’s legacy is that she calls Keanu her “husband” and he calls her his “wife.”
Winona Ryder is the envy of the world for her ‘husband’
Before you say “That’s a big deal, we All “When we call Keanu Reeves our ‘husband,’ remember two things:
One, that Winona Ryder is saying this in Keanu’s messages, not whispering it on his screen. Two, that he’s calling her “wife” in return.
As you can see for yourself in the video below, Winona Ryder spoke out on the subject. happy sad confused podcast, reflected on her decades-long “marriage” with Keanu.
Winona Ryder confirmed she and husband Keanu Reeves communicate, saying, “We text.”
“We always tell them who they are, even if it’s written in the text,” he said.
Though neither of the beloved actors are old enough to dish about their weird texting habit (unless you’re a Keanu Reeves is immortal truther), they are both somewhat reluctant when it comes to technology. This quirk matches the general vibe of both actors.
‘Happy birthday, my husband!’
Winona Ryder recalled the time she wished him a happy birthday, explaining: “I said, ‘Happy birthday, my husband!'”
He added: “He says, ‘Hey, wife! Love you! K.R., 57.’ Every birthday, he says, ‘K.R., 57,’ or whatever his age is, and he’s always done that. He’s the best.”
We can admit that if this was a story about less likable people, it might feel weird. Instead, it’s about two beloved entertainment icons and it couldn’t be cuter.
It’s pretty clear that Winona Ryder and Keanu Reeves never dated in real life. However, more than three decades ago, they both worked together in Bram Stoker’s Dracula.
Bram Stoker’s Dracula was a brilliant adaptation of the novel. In fact, it was such a sexist adaptation that it would be impossible to make it in today’s horribly shitty film culture. (Public condemnation of sexism is a major canary in the coal mine for the rise of fascism, so this is a little more serious than it seems)
During the film, Keanu and Winona’s characters, Jonathan Harker and Mina Harker (respectively), have a wedding. Since a real Romanian priest performed the fictional wedding, the two have since joked that they got married.
they aren’t actually married
Although Winona Ryder has joked in the past that saying “yes” means they are, in fact, married, it would be hard to find a single religious institution or legal system where filming a fake wedding for a movie would be legally or spiritually binding.
(Can you imagine if it worked that way? The movies would have to dance around the wedding scenes the way the show had to avoid “Happy Birthday.”)
However, it is lovely to see two of the most loved actors of the last century having such a cute bond.
