Barcelona is 90 million euros better after the departures of Piqué and Antoine Griezmann
Piqué announced his retirement in November last year, playing his last game at the Camp Nou in a 2-1 win over Osasuna. He enjoyed an illustrious career with the La Liga giants, making 616 appearances, winning the UEFA Champions League four times and La Liga eight times.
Meanwhile, Griezmann left Barcelona in July last year and rejoined Atlético Madrid for €20m. His stage with the Blaugrana was forgettable, scoring 35 goals and 17 assists in 102 inter-competition games.
Barcelona director of football Mateu Alemany has revealed that the club is €90m better off following the duo’s departure. He said (via Soccer Spain):
“Since this summer we no longer have the contracts of Griezmann and Piqué, so they are €90M less (in the wage bill)”.
The Blaugrana have been dealing with financial problems. They need to reduce their salary bill by 170 million euros to comply with the league rules. His recent financial woes led to the departure of the iconic Lionel Messi in 2021.
