WASHINGTON (Reuters) – The acting head of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) will tell a U.S. Senate committee on Wednesday that new security measures taken after a computer glitch affected thousands of flights will ensure that a backup database is not corrupted.

The ground stop on January 11 forced all outbound US passenger traffic to halt for nearly two hours, the first such action since the September 11, 2001 attacks.

Acting FAA Administrator Billy Nolen will tell senators he took the action “to maintain safety and preserve predictability,” according to written testimony seen by Reuters, adding that the FAA has done so since “to ensure that bad data in one database cannot affect a backup database.” ”
