UFC Vegas 70 main event canceled as Nikita Krylov falls sick, new headliner announced

Light heavyweight prospects Ryan Spann and Nikita Krylov were scheduled to headline UFC Vegas 70 on Saturday night. However, the main event fell apart at the last minute with Krylov calling in sick.

The details and nature of Krylov’s disease were revealed during the announcement made during the live broadcast.

Megan Olivi stated that ‘The Miner’ had fallen ill and doctors were unable to compete after they did everything they could to get him Octagon ready. Olivi also mentioned that the Ukrainian was given fluids.

WOW Nikita Krylov is sick and the main event for #UFCVegas70 is turned off. Man, this absolutely SUCKS. Brendan Allen vs. Andre Muniz is the new main event (3 rounds).

UFC Vegas 70 has a new main event

The middleweight clash between Andre Muniz and Brendan Allen, originally scheduled to headline the card, has been promoted to main event status. Muñiz, currently undefeated in five UFC outings, is riding a magnificent nine-fight win streak that began in 2017.

Meanwhile, ‘All In’ put up a three-fight winning streak last year after being starched by Chris Curtis in December 2021.

Nikita Krylov, who is currently ranked No. 6 on the light heavyweight ladder, is missing out on the first headlining opportunity of his career. ‘The Miner’ is coming off a decision victory over Volkan Oezdemir that was preceded by a first-round KO victory over former champion Alexander Gustafsson.

Coming off back-to-back first-round stoppage victories, Ryan Spann also missed his second UFC main event.
