Truist Foundation announces 0,000 grant to support Hurricane Helene relief and recovery efforts in the Southeast By Investing.com

Funds will be used to prepare, respond and restore in affected communities.

CHARLOTTE, NC / ACCESSWIRE / September 26, 2024 / Truist – As Hurricane Helene moves toward northwest Florida, the Truist Foundation announced today that it will donate $500,000 to support relief and recovery efforts in communities affected by the storm. Funds will be distributed to the American Red Cross and World Central Kitchen for immediate relief efforts, as well as to the Center for Disaster Philanthropy’s Atlantic Hurricane Season Fund for long-term recovery efforts.

“Our hearts go out to our teammates, customers, and communities in the path of Hurricane Helene, which is expected to make landfall as the strongest storm of this hurricane season so far,” said Lynette Bell, president of the Truist Foundation. “The importance of Truist’s purpose of inspiring and building better lives and communities is never clearer than when disaster strikes. The Truist Foundation is dedicated to ensuring that communities have the critical resources needed to prepare, respond, and recover as quickly as possible.”

Selected organizations will use grant funds to identify and meet the most essential and immediate community needs, such as access to food, shelter, and medical services. A portion of the grant will focus on medium- and long-term recovery, with the help of disaster experts in collaboration with affected communities. Restoration efforts can address needs such as rebuilding housing, providing mental health, legal, and disaster case management services, and other urgent challenges identified as recovery efforts progress.

Additionally, earlier this year, the Truist Foundation donated $1 million to the American Red Cross Annual Disaster Giving Program, designed to quickly provide assistance to communities impacted by events like Hurricane Helene. Those funds help provide food, shelter, emotional support, comfort kits and other immediate relief supplies to thousands of families and individuals affected by such disasters.
