Sammi “Sweetheart” Giancola is opening up about her personal life.
The MTV personality spoke to the New York Post this week about her dream of expanding her family — and how challenging it has been for her and her fiancé Justin May so far.
The 37-year-old, who got engaged in March, told the outlet that she is a “private person,” but wants to keep it “real” with fans when it comes to in-vitro fertilization treatments.
Sammi’s pregnancy journey will apparently be the focus of Part 2 of Season 7 of Jersey Shore: Family Vacation, which premieres on September 19.
“I wanted to keep it a secret because at first I thought, ‘Listen, I don’t know if the outcome is going to be what I want … I’m going to be devastated if this doesn’t work,'” Giancola told Page Six, explaining that cameras weren’t allowed during her doctor’s appointment.
However, the audience Desire Watch the reality star inject herself with hormones – and tell her co-workers she’s trying to have a baby.
Giancola has been undergoing these treatments for a long time.
Sammi reveals that during this time, her ex-boyfriend and co-star Ronnie Ortiz-Magro “wasn’t there.”
“But it’s not weird because he’s a co-worker and we’re not related. He’s just someone I work with,” Sammi said months after reuniting with Ronnie on camera.
“That part of my life is completely over and gone for a very long time … and nothing that I do in my life has anything to do with it.”
Giancola froze her eggs when she was 35 and had just started dating May, doing so because she was unsure about her future but knew she would want to have children someday.
The couple tried to conceive naturally but were unsuccessful.
But when it comes to this important trip, May stands firmly by his future wife’s side.
“He’s so positive and encouraging,” Sammi told Page Six. “If I’m feeling down or if I’m going through this, he’s always there to pick me up and get me back to that good place where I’m focused and I’m like, ‘OK, the end goal is positive. We’re just gonna think positive.'”
In the end, this is why she wants to share her story:
“Maybe someone can look at me and maybe understand or maybe they’ve been through this or maybe they can connect with me in some way.”
