Now we’re getting a clearer picture of Charlie’s initial reaction to Meghan thanks to a new book by journalist and royal expert Robert Jobson.

According to Jobson, when Harry told the family he wanted to marry Meghan, William responded by asking if he was sure, and Charles quickly announced that Meghan No Be allowed to be included in the family payroll.

“Charles dropped a blunder saying he could not pay for Meghan as well as Camilla and William and Catherine and their young family in the future. This enraged Harry,” Jobson wrote Our King: Charles III: The Man and the Monarch Revealed.

Jobson states that Queen Elizabeth II attempted to intervene to save the father-son relationship, but her efforts did not interest either side.

“When the Queen asked Charles why he had not given in, he told her that he was not the bank,” Jobson wrote.

The author also cited a source who says that after Harry and Meghan moved to California, Harry made frequent phone calls to the Queen.
