On Thursday, Meghan Markle released the first trailer for her new Netflix lifestyle show.
series, title With love, MeghanIn which the Duchess and her celebrity friends cook meals, arrange flowers, and offer a wide range of tips and tricks for aspiring hosts and hostesses.
In other words, it’s Meghan’s way of confirming her intention to be the Martha Stewart of her generation.
Meghan’s new show faces criticism
Unfortunately, Martha’s successes may be a product of a bygone era.
These days, dinner parties are mostly a thing of the past, and people who need cooking tips are probably finding them on TikTok.
Maybe that’s why Meghan’s latest Netflix project is getting such a lukewarm reception.
When the trailer debuted on YouTube, haters rushed to the comments section and blamed the Duchess of Sussex for being “tone deaf” and “out of touch.”
And now, Meghan has attracted the unwanted attention of a very high-profile critic: media personality and self-described political neo-baby Meghan McCain.
meghan vs meghan
“I was originally a supporter of Meghan Markle, I thought she was cool, stylish and fresh. “My opinion changed, as did the rest of the world, when she disrespected the royal family,” McCain wrote on X (formerly Twitter) today.
“Now that she wants to be American again instead of British aristocrats she forgets that Americans want the real, raw, uncensored. Even in the trailer it all seems highly curated, manufactured and out of touch.”
From there, McCain cited recent terrorist violence in the US and second accused Meghan of announcing her posh new project at an inappropriate time.
“There have been 2 terrorist attacks in 2 days, major wars have broken out and Americans can’t pay for groceries. We are a nation of anger, uncertainty and intensity right now,” he wrote.
“This concept is ill-advised. I would have asked him to do a show helping bring fresh food to food deserts in low-income areas. Do something to help people instead of your ego,” she added.
“That’s why the world doesn’t like you, nothing else. Completely and totally deaf to this moment.”
McCain’s comments echo many reactions to the show on YouTube and social media.
(Though in saying that “the world” doesn’t like Meghan, McCain went a little further than most anonymous trolls.)
Obviously, these decisions have been made prematurely, as the eight-episode series won’t premiere until January 15.
a lot on the line
But Team Meghan might be feeling a little nervous right now, as the stakes couldn’t be higher for this project.
Meghan and Prince Harry signed a lucrative deal with Netflix in 2020, and so far, the couple has yet to deliver a major hit.
The couple’s latest project, a documentary about the world of professional polo, was met with poor reviews and minimal viewership.
Insiders say that after a disappointing 2024, Meghan and Harry are hoping to bounce back in the new year.
So they better hope that Netflix subscribers don’t reach the same conclusions that Meghan McCain did. Otherwise, they will have to overcome another setback.
