Martha Stewart shoves Drew Barrymore after cringeworthy petting attempt

Welcome.

That was strange.

On the November 12 edition of The Drew Barrymore Show, the host welcomed guest Martha Stewart, who has recently been in the news due to a documentary about her life that included bombshells such as Stewart cheating on her husband.

In this latest example, the 83-year-old was honored by Barrymore as an “original” influencer… and then things got weird.

At one point, Barrymore asks Martha, biting her finger: “What makes you soft and sticky?”

Uh, “Soft and sticky treats,” Stewart finally replied, clearly confused by the very confusing question.

‘Soft and sticky treat?’ Barrymore repeated, before leaning over and trying to caress her guest’s arm, “When you’re treated like a lady?”

The sad moment ended when Stewart pushed Barrymore aside and told her, “You’re the wrong gender!”

Eventually Barrymore dramatically collapsed on the couch and said, “I know, I know”, before one of Barrymore’s dogs ran onto the stage and created a much-needed distraction.

Barrymore tried to save the moment by saying, “As much as we’re here today to honor you, I also want to thank you for honoring everyone in the world that you’ve impacted.”

But still it has gone viral.

Barrymore is no stranger to unusual guest interactions.

Last December, the occasional actress was called “clingy, timid and shy” for touching Oprah Winfrey’s arm during an interview.

Most recently, her interview technique was labeled “offensive” on social media and by uncomfortable viewers after she sat too close to Austin Butler on the couch.

“I will try to practice physical distancing, which is not my strong suit,” Barrymore admitted to Entertainment Tonight in August.

“You know how hard the pandemic was for me? I was alone in the studio, I like being among people. It’s not everyone’s favorite, but I feel sorry for those people.

“I think first and foremost we’ll always be big on happiness and laughter and feeling good, and it was something I always wanted to do, but I never thought we’d be launching into a pandemic, and leaning into happiness. And the feeling and comedy of that time was really weird and wacky.
