Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez has liked a social media post linking him with a move to Champions League side AC Milan. Nunez, who has struggled to secure regular playing time under new coach Arne Slot, has been linked with a possible move to the Italian giants during the January window.
The Uruguayan striker joined the Reds in 2022, following his record £85million move from Benfica. However, he has not lived up to high expectations and is currently behind Diogo Jota and Luis Díaz in the Slot pecking order.
AC Milan TMN previously reported that the club had entered talks with Liverpool over a mid-season loan deal, which would include an obligation to buy in the summer for £37.4 million. This speculation will certainly gain more traction after Núñez liked an Instagram story in which he appears in an AC Milan shirt.
Although Milan remains strongly linked to Darwin Núñez, a contrasting report from the mail Simon Jones suggests that Liverpool have not received any communication from the Italian club about a possible transfer.
Meanwhile, Arne Slot himself has expressed his confidence in the striker’s ability to influence games.
“For me, it has an impact. If you just look at the goals, he hasn’t scored the amount of goals he wants, or we want him to score a nine, but it does have an impact on his work rate. “He is part of a team that scores a lot of goals and is winning a lot,” he said (via BBC).
Liverpool are in good form and are currently at the top of the Premier League table. They have a six-point lead over second-placed Arsenal, who have played one more game than the Reds.
The Liverpool legend shares his opinion on the possible departure of Trent Alexander-Arnold
While Nunez has been linked with a transfer, multiple reports suggest Liverpool vice-captain Trent Alexander-Arnold could head to Real Madrid next summer. The full-back’s contract expires at the end of the season, allowing him to begin negotiations with other clubs this month.
Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher, in a post on social media platform
“The most important thing for @LFC in 2025 is to win the #PremierLeague. No contract or future should get in the way of that! I love Trent as a boy and as a player, but his team would have told Real Madrid to bid.” And he would also have known that the LFC would reject him. It’s to try to cover yourself when you go free. “Once again, it is something the club and fans do not need with a big game ahead,” he tweeted.
The Reds are preparing for a series of challenging matches this month, starting with a crucial clash against Manchester United at Anfield on January 5. They will then travel to London to face Tottenham Hotspur in the Carabao Cup semi-finals on January 8.
