Last offseason, the Denver Broncos pulled off one of the most successful trades in NFL history when they acquired Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson.

Denver gave up two first-round picks, two second-round picks, a fifth-round pick, Drew Lock, Shelby Harris and Noah Fant in exchange for the fourth-round pick of Wilson and the Seahawks in the 2022 draft. Denver signed a five-year, $245 million contract extension.

While Denver made the aggressive move to acquire Wilson, there was a chance he would have become a Philadelphia Eagle or Washington Commander.

According to NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport, one of the biggest rumors he heard during last year’s combine was that Wilson almost became an Eagle or a Major.

“I’ll give you one from last year so I don’t ruin anything this year,” Rapoport said. Trade for Russell Wilson.

“That was one where you, like, stopped everything. Now, it turned out that that was not something he liked. He was just interested in going to the Broncos.”

It’s a good thing the Philadelphia Eagles didn’t acquire Russell Wilson from the Seahawks last offseason.

Wilson played poorly given what the Broncos gave up and paid him. Wilson went 4-11 as the team’s starter. He had the lowest passer rating of his career (84.4) and completion percentage (60.5) while throwing 16 touchdowns and 11 interceptions.

He was booed on the field at times, and Broncos fans were dissatisfied with his results on the field.

Jalen Hurts had an MVP-like season for the Eagles last year.

He led the Eagles to the Super Bowl while going 14-1 as a starter. He passed for 3,701 yards, 22 touchdowns and six interceptions. On the ground, he had 760 yards and 13 touchdowns.

The Eagles were one of the best teams in the league, as Hurts had a great season that will likely end in a big payday for him potentially this offseason. They dodged a bullet by not acquiring Wilson while giving up many future picks.

Given how poorly he played last season, the Commanders also seem to have dodged a bullet, despite his inconsistency at quarterback.
