latest season of sister Wives Taking turns.
As we get closer to the finale, fans are getting an inside look at not only the beginning of one romance, but also the end of another.
Christine’s relationship with David has progressed rapidly over the past two years, yet romantically, the show takes a look at their early courtship which explains why their marriage was a quick affair.
That said, we’re also seeing Meri’s divorce from Kody finalized and rightfully so, every moment of it has been painful and awkward to watch.
And then things got weirdly sexual for the former partners.
Meri and Cody, End of an Era
As Christine is telling her kids and Janelle the big news that she is engaged, Meri is finally taking her future into her own hands by venturing out of Coyote Pass.
The big moving day has arrived, and as promised Cody is ready to help her move her things into the moving van as well as move her stuff to her new place.
He’s hoping she’ll take it as a “goodwill gesture,” but Meri has been sending Kody a message from the beginning. First, she wears a shirt about “karma”, taking a dig at their marriage.
Speaking of which, as it turns out, this couple’s 33rd wedding anniversary is having a dynamic day. Cody actually wonders if she planned it this way, of course, she denies.
But the day does not seem sad. While Kody admits to having “mixed emotions” and Meri gets angry over the conversation about their bedsit, it seems like the pair is able to work together in a way that surprises both of them.
And then things take a strange turn.
I supported it in Kodi
Also present for the move is Meri’s brother-in-law, Nathan, who is also Cody’s best friend.
As they begin to load the truck, Mary helps Nathan get his exercise bike, which runs backward into the space. Neither she nor Nathan have seen Cody already in the truck, and because of this, Meri drives straight into Cody. Well, actually, because of the angle of the move, his butt goes straight into Cody. Seeing it go down, Nathan actually pushes the bike a little, getting Meri closer to Cody.
It seems like a harmless joke. Everyone starts laughing so hard that tears come to their eyes. Mary even says she can pee in her pants. But in the moment, as Cody finds this moment to be completely harmless fun, he sings a different tune in his confessional.
“We’re joking about something that I definitely consider sacred with me and Robyn because it was sexual in nature.”
Oh yes, Robin. Speaking of that…
Tears, tears, and more tears
As Kody helps Meri pack to leave her life, Janelle finally meets David for the first time at Christine’s new house. As expected, Janelle loves him and is happy to have her sister wife.
The pair then start talking about Meri and they agree that they are very happy with how she has moved on in life. Despite their differences, they truly want what’s best for Meri. In that vein, Christine mentions that it’s not just getting away from Kody that would be good for Meri — it’s getting away from Robyn.
She accuses Robin of manipulating Mary and playing her like a fiddle for so many years. Robin of course denies this in her confessional and says it would be “impossible” to do so.
Back at Meri’s house, Robyn brings a gift for Kody’s first wife. They leave the boys to go back into the house and Robin can’t control her emotions. She sheds endless tears – and mine, well, no.
In her confessional, Meri admitted that her feelings were being guarded and that she would not share them with anyone she did not trust. This obviously includes Robin. As far as Kody is concerned, he knows Robyn isn’t “okay” about Meri’s move – but he insists he can’t agree with it.
“There’s this extreme degree of heartbreak that I can’t understand,” Cody says, which turns out to be quite ironic considering what happens next.
last goodbye
In the final act of the show, Cody helps Mary move her belongings to the B&B. After the deed is finally done, the former lovers turn to each other to say goodbye – and Cody loses it. He begins to cry like a robin, mourning “the last nail in the coffin of our dreams”.
But Meri, looking at his crying face, admits that she is confused. He is the one who wanted this. He was the one who said that they should break the marriage.
“It always amazes me that you get emotional like that. I don’t understand,” Mary tells him, questioning his tears. In response, he merely admits that he is longing for what they had.
“It’s just, I look at my life and it feels like it hasn’t been turned upside down. “It’s like…we had something.”
But in his final moments, Cody actually apologizes for the past “seven years” and hopes that they can truly be friends now. He even describes them as equivalent to “brother and sister” and jokes that he might one day move his “favorite ex-wife” out of the way when she marries someone else.
All this leaves Mary more confused than ever. And can you blame him?
