In a clip from this Sunday’s season premiere of the TLC series, Meri sits down with a friend and opens up about Kody Brown … the former polygamist to whom Meri was legally/spiritually married for three decades.
“I really feel sorry for him,” Mary says, as TODAY.com previews the conversation.
Meri married Kody in 1994, but in 2014, Kody sought a divorce so he could marry Robyn Brown and legally adopt her children from a previous relationship.
And yet: Meri stayed with Kody for years… even after Kody stopped paying attention to her.
And stopped sleeping with him completely.
In the season premiere footage above, Meri’s friend says she believes Kody is going through an “extremely awkward mid-life crisis,” which prompts Meri to respond:
“That’s what it feels like.”
However, her friend doesn’t completely agree.
“Okay, let’s be honest. He’s always been Cody, but at least he was kind to you,” she tells Meri. “I haven’t seen him try in years.”
Later in a confessional, Meri opens up about her long-term troubles with Kody.
“Honestly, I’ve felt for a long time that he says those things to push me out. Because if he can push me out and I leave, then he’s not a bad guy because he didn’t run away,” she explains to the camera.
In the preview for the new season of Sister Wives, Kody attacks his ex-wife, saying he should never have married Meri.

Kody and Meri announce their decision to end their marriage in January 2023.
“After more than a decade of cultivating our relationship in our own unique ways, we have decided to permanently end our marriage,” the couple said in a joint statement at the time.
For her part, Merri also said at the time that she held no ill will toward the Brown family patriarch.
“There is still much more to be told about this story, and I assure you the truth will be told,” Meri said a year and a half ago, adding:
“But for now, know that I have peace in my heart, and I hold no animosity toward Kody. I am not, and pray I will never be, in a place where I enjoy making rude and derogatory comments about him or watching you do so.
“You will have varying feelings and opinions about this news and may wish to comment on it. When doing so, please consider the fact that we are real people with real lives and real feelings.
“Please refrain from congratulating me on the breakdown of my marriage. I value our relationship, and look forward to stepping into 2023 and into our future with grace, kindness, and strength.
