in sunday’s episode sister WivesKody spoke at length to Robyn about his relationship with his children.
Over the past five years, it has become clear that most of Kody’s relationships with his 18 children are either strained or non-existent.
During their fight, Cody insists to Robin that he is not the bad guy, that his children are as responsible for their differences as he is. In some cases, he thinks they are even more guilty than him.
There are two things for which he is willing to take the blame: Throwing some boys out of the house during Covid because they could not follow the rules…
And remembering his daughter Ysabel’s terrifying surgery.
Ysabel’s surgery and fight with her father
In 2020, Kody and Christine’s daughter required surgery on her spine.
Technically, it was scoliosis surgery, and she needed the procedure to address the curve in her spine. Fans watched as the young woman endured unimaginable pain.
At first, it seemed as if the family could not afford the $50,000 down payment required for the procedure. But through some hard work on Christine’s part, they made the money.
Finally, relief came in September of that year, when she scheduled the procedure with a doctor in NJ.
Everyone was ready to support him. Christine was on hand to travel with him, Meri and Janelle offer their support leading up to the big day — and then Cody arrives.
Now, we all know what happened in 2020. The COVID pandemic was a major upheaval in everyone’s lives across the world. At the Brown house, Kody was very strict about family rules and everyone’s coming and going.
In fact, she even forced her sons Gabe and Garrison out of Jenelle’s house because they couldn’t follow her rules.
At the same time, Kody used the restrictions as a means to not travel to NJ with Ysabel for her surgery. She flatly refused to travel and be with him in his time of need.
And then went ahead and made fun of him about it at the same time.
Kody calls his daughter “bitter”
On an episode of Sister Wives before her surgery, Ysabel talks to her father about his planned absence, which he blames on COVID-19 and the need to stay healthy for the sake of the family.
Ysabel is clearly in favor of taking medical precautions, but said in the installment that Cody’s priorities definitely seem “messed up.”
After telling his daughter that he is not going with her, he awkwardly asks if she is “going to be a bitter old housewife because your dad didn’t do it for you?”
This is so strange and gender biased, wouldn’t you agree?
“I won’t be bitter,” Ysabel replies. “I won’t hold it against you.”
However, in a later confessional, the poor young woman becomes emotional and raises big questions about her father.
“I need him to be there, but why isn’t he coming?” Ysabel cries into the air.
“I don’t know, why wouldn’t he be there? Why won’t he give up everything for me? “I think his priorities are a little messed up.”
Kodi’s defense is weak at best
Cody tried to explain that if he went for the surgery, it would be fine… then he would have to quarantine… and then he would be away from many of his children and spouses for weeks.
“Because of COVID and quarantine and things like that, I have to be away from the rest of my family and the risk of exposure to COVID-19,” he said in the episode.
“What we’re trying to do is make sure I can see the whole family this whole time.
To her credit, Ysabel tries to be understanding.
“He has a lot of kids to think about. I know I’m not the only child who needs to make sure he or she is safe during this pandemic. It sucks that he can’t be there,” she said.
Ysabel later tells the camera that she feels like the fear of Kody getting COVID-19 is taking over her life.
“He’s letting fear take over,” she said.
Although Cody did not get corona infection, what he feared happened.
Cody’s marriage ends
Many fans cite Ysabel’s surgery and Cody’s decision as the last straw for Christine. After that, Christine announced that she was leaving Kody, leaving most of her children with her.
Shortly thereafter, after seeing the way Kody treated his children, Janelle did the same, divorcing Kody and ending their spiritual marriage.
Meri followed suit a year later, although in her case, she was more or less kicked out by Kody, who no longer wanted to be in a plural marriage.
