Sorry, all you romantics and believers out there.
But in reality, everything is over between Kim Plath and Barry Plath.
According to various sources, the Welcome to Plathville cast member filed divorce papers in Georgia on June 26, stating that her marriage to Barry has “irretrievably broken down.”
In Kim’s divorce filing, the TLC personality confirmed she was now living in Florida, and stated she and Barry’s separation date as December 31, 2021.
The reality stars didn’t publicly announce their split until June 28, 2022, after 24 years of marriage — at which time they said the following:
“After much thought and discussion, we have decided to end our marriage,” Kim and Barry told the outlet.
“Although this was not an easy decision, we know it is the best choice for both of us.
“We have been through many ups and downs throughout our 24-year marriage and as we move forward into this new chapter of our lives, we will be co-parenting our amazing children.”
This 2022 statement was released the same evening that TLC aired an episode in which Barry said she had been cheated on by her spouse.
The head of the family said on air, “The one thing that I thought would never be shaken was us. Now it’s completely shaken. It’s really sad. It’s a tragedy.”
In a confession, he further said:
“I look at her and I see a woman who feels trapped. I’ve bought flowers and gifts, but I’m still optimistic and hopeful that she will change.”
Before making their official announcement, the former spouses documented their marital struggles on Season 4 of Welcome to Plathville.
“Barry and I have decided to live apart for a while,” Kim said during an episode. “The easiest way to do that right now is whenever one of our rental properties becomes vacant, I just pack my bags and move there and live there.”
Meanwhile, in February we reported that Kim had started dating.
In her divorce papers, she asked for primary custody of the three minor children (out of six total) she has with Barry: Amber (15), Cassia (13), and Mercy (11).
The documents state:
“Plaintiff has demonstrated that she is a fit and proper parent to care for the minor children and that she is entitled to both temporary and permanent primary custody of the minor children.”
Kim is also seeking child support from Barry.
Season 5 of Welcome to Plathville aired in the fall of last year and featured Kim and Barry’s break-up.
“Barry and I were together for 24 years, and the best part of it was all the children we brought into this world, nurtured them, grew up with them, had fun with them and laughed with them,” Kim said during the finale in December.
“I wouldn’t change those 25 years of marriage for anything because it gave me such beautiful children.”
