Hollywood has lost a legend.
And Kiefer Sutherland has lost his parents.
As previously reported, Donald Sutherland died on June 20 in Miami after battling an undisclosed illness.
The senior actor was 88 years old.
During a career spanning seven decades, Sutherland played leading roles in hit films, such as Mr. Bennett in 2005’s Pride & Prejudice opposite Keira Knightley and Hawkeye Pierce in 1970’s M.ASh.
He had notable roles in several films, including Ordinary People (1980) and Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1978), as well as playing the evil President Snow in all four Hunger Games films alongside Jennifer Lawrence and others.
Sutherland won an Emmy Award for the 1995 TV movie Citizen X and an Honorary Academy Award in 2017 “for indelible characters played with unflinching sincerity.”
More recently, he has appeared in the television shows The Undoing, Trust, and Swimming with Sharks.
Donald Sutherland has five children, including fellow actor Kiefer Sutherland.
“It is with a heavy heart that I inform you that my father, Donald Sutherland, has passed away,” he wrote in a statement on his social media platform.
“I personally consider him one of the most important actors in the history of film. He was never afraid of any role, whether good, bad or ugly. He loved what he did and did what he loved, and no one can ask for more than that. A life well lived.”

In addition to this beautiful tribute, Kiefer also shared an old photo (above) of himself and his father.
The black and white photo features loved ones from when Kiefer was a kid … and the two are standing close to each other and posing for the camera.
At this point, Kiefer is probably best known for his long-running role on the drama 24 .
The father-son duo worked together on several occasions over the years, including the films “Max Dugan Returns” (1983), “Forsaken” (2015) and “A Time to Kill” (1996).
In 2022, Kiefer told The Guardian how his famous father’s career inspired his Hollywood journey.
“It’s hard to think of another actor who has made such diverse films as Ordinary People, Don’t Look Now, Fellini’s Casanova, Bertolucci’s 1900 and The Hunger Games,” he said at the time.
“His influence was in making my career as varied and interesting as possible, which he taught me not by telling me, but by doing, which was really cool.”
A private celebration of life will be held at a later date by his family in honor of Donald Sutherland.
We offer our condolences to the friends, family members and loved ones of Donald Sutherland. May his soul rest in peace.
