Kevin Costner’s relationship with Princess Diana has come under new scrutiny in recent months.

And he’s sharing new details about his relationship with Diana and the royal family’s harsh response to it.

In a new interview with Howard Stern, Costner revealed he first contacted Diana through Prince Andrew’s ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson.
The Oscar winner recalled, “What happened was I started talking to her through Sara and said, ‘Look, I’m going to do ‘Bodyguard 2,’ and I think I could build it around you. Would you be interested?'” (via Page Six ).
He added, “She said, ‘Yes. My life is going to change.’ I didn’t elaborate on it, but I thought I understood what she meant.”
“She was so sweet. The second time we talked, she asked, ‘Will there be a kissing scene?’ I said, ‘Do you want there to be a kissing scene?’ She said, ‘Yeah,’ and I said, ‘Then we’ll do that.’
“I wasn’t going to make the whole romantic thing about her. But there was a moment when we did that. And she was really sweet about that.”
The project never came to fruition, as Diana died in a car accident shortly afterwards.
Now, Costner claims the royal family turned on him following Diana’s death.

“When Diana died, a year after that, it leaked out that I was preparing to do ‘Bodyguard 2’ with her. And what happened was the royal family cut ties with me a little bit,” Costner told Stern.
The actor added, “Like, ‘No, that’s not true.’ And it got really ugly.”
“And I left it for a while. It just got uglier and uglier.”
Costner recalls that he then took matters into his own hands and approached Fergie for help.
“Ultimately, I called Sarah and said, ‘Sarah, you’ve got to tell me who’s taking the lead on this,'” he told Stern this week.
“He said, ‘No, no, no, Kev, you don’t want to talk to them.’ I said, ‘Yes, I want to talk to them.’ I called him up and said:
“‘I’m telling you something, you have to stop because it’s the truth. And if you don’t stop, I’ll start over. Because it was the truth.'”
The friendship between Kevin Costner and Princess Diana may have been short-lived, but it seems the royal family felt a little threatened by it.
Sadly, Diana never got a chance to pursue her interest in film acting.
Costner is rumored to be considering a role in bodyguard 2 With Meghan Markle, however, that seems unlikely to happen.
And the royal family is probably very relieved to know that a sequel will probably never happen.
