Why is Keith Urban comparing Miley Cyrus to an ashtray? And why does he insist it’s a compliment?!
Miley Cyrus is talented, accomplished, and extremely famous. She’s in high demand, she’s been targeted by disgraced former presidents, and she’s worked hard to get where she is.
Keith Urban is best known as Nicole Kidman’s husband, but he’s also a country music star. When he has opinions about music, people listen to him.
Comparing Miley Cyrus to an ashtray is wrong. LikeBut that’s not necessarily an insult. Is it really a compliment?
What did Keith Urban say about Miley Cyrus?
During a recent episode of Nova 96.9 Fitzy and Wippa Keith Urban spoke with Kate Ritchie in Sydney about the beloved singer.
He praised her, saying that he has “always loved Miley,” which is the perfect way to feel about Miley Cyrus. Despite some mistakes and missteps in her life, she has been an outspoken force for good.
I love that voice, man, that voice,” Keith Urban said of Miley Cyrus. “Her voice is like an ashtray.”
A What Now?
“And I mean that as a compliment,” Keith Urban quickly clarified his “ashtray” comment about Miley Cyrus.
“That looks like the carpet of an R.S.L.” he said then. R.S.L. stands for Returned and Services League, a gathering place for veterans and current military personnel. Presumably, he means that such places are a haven for cigarette smokers.
How is ‘Ashtray’ a compliment in any way?
Ashtrays are now an ugly thing of the past. There was a time when they were placed on restaurant tables, in doctor’s waiting rooms and in office buildings – everywhere there was a haze of stench and smoke.
But when Keith Urban said Miley Cyrus voiced like an ashtray, it’s clear he didn’t mean to be insulting.
Rather, it seems he was praising her for her distinct, raspy voice. Although there are many ways to get a raspy voice, cigarettes systematically damage many organs of the human body, and sometimes cause a deep, raspy voice. Hence the expression of a person having a “voice like an ashtray.”
Keith Urban has shown his fondness for Miley’s music.
She has performed the song “Flowers” on her shows several times.
Covering a song is always a sign of flattery, with exceptions. Keith Urban loves Miley Cyrus’ music… and her “ashtray”-like voice.
He also praised other singers a lot
Keith Urban praises Taylor Swift in April 2024 Department of tortured poets write a song while talking People,
He also praised Ariana Grande’s song “We Can’t Be Friends”, comparing it to a “listener heroin” that he can’t put down.
Here we see that Keith Urban is clearly a nice person and has a great interest in music. We also see that he often uses colorful, seemingly unflattering metaphors when he praises other singers.
