Jon Jones explains why Brock Lesnar super-fight is still the matchup to make

Jon Jones is nearing his return to the Octagon after three long years. Although he has a tough opponent in front of him, he took some time to fantasize about a possible clash that he could still see.

Ciryl Gane has been a revelation in the sport since he made his professional debut almost five years ago and, despite his inexperience, the European has positioned himself to stand up against one of the greatest of all time. The Frenchman has a chance to spoil his opponent’s comeback and capture UFC gold in the process.

When asked who his dream fight is, Jon Jones explained why he and Brock Lesnar would make a fantastic outing inside the Octagon, hinting that the superfight is still a possibility.

“I think fighting Brock Lesnar would have been really cool. Brock’s not the most technical guy, but he’s got a huge fan base. He’s a lot bigger than me and it would have been one of those really cool David vs. Goliath situations. I think we both would have done great things for our family and for our team financially that would have been huge… Never say never. Brock if you’re there.”

Jon Jones has had his fair share of megafights under the UFC banner, his matchups against Daniel Cormier, Alexander Gustaffson and more throughout his career, but none come close to the magnitude of a potential matchup against Brock Lesnar.

Brock Lesnar’s UFC record: How would the beast have stacked up against Jon Jones?

Despite ending his UFC career with four wins, three losses and one no-contest, Brock Lesnar had quite the successful time inside the Octagon during his eight-year run with the promotion.

After losing his debut via submission, the 45-year-old went on a four-fight winning streak in which he beat legends like Randy Couture, captured and defended heavyweight gold and avenged his first loss in the sport.

Lesnar’s most recent fight came in 2016 in a dominating performance over Mark Hunt, and while USADA caught him using PEDs, it’s likely his suspension time is up, meaning he’s possibly eligible to return to the cage.
