John David and Abbie have been married for six years. For the most part, they avoided the spotlight — especially after TLC’s eventual cancellation counting on,
However, during their time on reality TV, John David and Abby managed to become fan favorites.
Part of this came from John David waiting to marry a little later than some of his siblings in the Duggar family. Abby also has a nursing background – a definite improvement over some of the cult’s wives, who were denied any real education.
But fans believed that John David and Abbie had a level of authenticity that many of their Duggar siblings didn’t have. For one thing, both were seen breaking rules here and there.
Secondly, he does not seem to crave fame. Not for myself, not for the money, and not to promote Jim Bob’s twisted agenda.
Case in point: Did you know that John David and Abby recently celebrated their anniversary? They enjoyed the stay for a few days rather than a long video and a (sponsored) trip that felt like an advertisement.

Earlier in November, the two enjoyed their (temporarily) child-free staycation. This doesn’t match the ideology of Jim Bob and Michelle — but it is relatable to many parents who love their kids but enjoy some time off.
“10/10 recommend booking a kids free stay with your spouse for your anniversary!” Abby Burnett wrote on Instagram. “To celebrate this year we had to relax, have fun, spend quality time together at home!”
Along with her caption, Abbie shared a series of photos – which you can see above – of the couple enjoying one-on-one time.
Praise started pouring in the comments.
“The realest, most transparent Duggar couple. You two are so cute!” One Instagram follower was furious.
Another commenter praised how “fantastic” John David and Abbie look in their photos.
How do they stay so normal?
Obviously, growing up in a cult or growing up on reality television changes the path of your life forever. John David is no exception, and neither are any of his Duggar siblings.
However, he and Abby have made a choice. These days he leads a completely normal life. No reality TV cameras, no books or TV specials.
They attend family functions like weddings. And yes, they still share photos from their trips. But these are normal things, and it gives the impression that they are more practical than John David’s more mission-oriented relatives.
