Joe Alwyn is very much in the news these days.
But not because he once dated Taylor Swift.
The British actor is receiving strong reviews for his role in the new film Kinds of Kindness, but even during the peak of his career so far…
…The issue of his ex-girlfriend keeps coming up.
In an interview with The Sunday Times Style published on June 15, the 33-year-old detailed for the first time what it feels like to be known only because he dated Swift.
It is important to emphasize that they both stayed together for six years.
“I think and hope that everyone can empathize,” Alvin said in response to a question about The Tortured Poets Department and the songs on the album that many believe are about him.
“I hope everyone can empathise and understand the difficulties that come with the end of a long, loving, fully committed relationship of over six and a half years.
“It’s very hard to deal with,” Alvin said.
Alwyn and Swift broke up in the spring of last year, just months before she began dating Travis Kelce.
There are rumours that Alwyn cheated on the superstar, but there is no concrete evidence of this. And Swift has never openly said anything like this.
Referring to the incredible scrutiny the breakup received, Alwyn further said in this interview:
“What is unusual and unusual about this situation is that a week later it suddenly becomes public and the outside world is able to express its view on it.
“So you suddenly have a very real thing thrown into a very unreal place: the tabloids, social media, the press, where it’s dissected, speculated upon, pulled apart beyond recognition.
“And the truth is that, right up to the last point, there will always be a gap between what is known and what is said. I have accepted that.”
Alwyn said he and Swift had “mutually” decided to “keep the personal details of their relationship private”, adding “It was never something to objectify and I see no reason to change that now.”
We’re sure the rising star would love to just be known for his career at this point, but it seems like he understands the situation.
While the actor said he’s “in a really great place in my life professionally and personally,” he also didn’t reveal whether or not he and his ex-wife are still in touch … or if he’s dating someone new, he told the aforementioned outlet:
“I’m sure you can understand why I wouldn’t want to open the door to such things right now, given the level of noise and scrutiny surrounding my past relationship.”
Many Swifties believe that the track “So Long London” from the new album is a hint at a breakup between Taylor and Alwyn.
The lyrics of another breakup song, “The Black Dog”, mention “some bar” of the same name, which appears to be a pub located in London’s Vauxhall neighbourhood.
However, Alvin said in his latest interview that he has “never been to Vauxhall.”
We believe the mystery remains in this case.
