Jinger Duggar faces family backlash after exposing toxic church

Jinger Duggar is opening up about the reaction to her debut memoir.

It turns out that some members of the ever-growing Duggar family and their controversial church weren’t exactly doing cartwheels with enthusiasm.

Ginger didn’t just get feedback from strangers.

Some of his own “loved ones” said cruel things to him in response to him speaking out.

Jinger Duggar Learned From Her First Book That Everyone Is a Critic

In Becoming Truly Free: My Story of Separating Faith from FearJinger Duggar condemned the toxic cult that shaped her life in many ways.

His family has ties to the IBLP, an ultra-Orthodox fundamentalist organization Ahead controversial. From its infamous founder, Bill Gothard, to the promotion of extremely poor “educational” materials and numerous scandals… every survivor’s story is also a horror story.

As an adult, Ginger had to learn a lot of this. In a new interview he told People She tried to “focus my thoughts on how I can love and serve those who have been deeply hurt by this teaching” rather than caring about “what all the critics will say.”

Jinger Duggar confirmed, “I will put all that aside and say, no, I want to do what I feel called to do and that is to tell the truth.”

“So let me put on my blinders and focus on that and share my story,” she resolved. “And then whatever the outcome, I know I did what I was supposed to do.”

Ginger talked about the value of “not having this fear” of speaking. He said it was “really very liberating.”

That memoir saw Ginger receive feedback from ‘loved ones’

“Yes, there were critics. Yes, there were people who were saying very harsh things,” he admitted.

Ginger said: “There were loved ones who said things that were very unkind. It wasn’t easy.” We wouldn’t imagine.

“But at the end of the day, I realized it was the best decision,” Jinger insisted. “It was the best thing I could do, to love these people by sharing the truth.”

Jinger Duggar then explained, “That was something that was liberating for me.”

This was because “…the more I think clearly about the ‘why’ behind telling the truth, the more I need to stand up for vulnerable people,” she argued.

Ginger then admitted: “My people never allowed me to do this before. I would have remained silent.”

What is it that makes people happy?

Of course, Ginger was giving an interview about her latest book, which has an extremely long title: People pleaser: freeing yourself from the burden of imaginary expectations,

It is extremely common for children who grew up in abusive and otherwise toxic homes to be eager to please, even desperate to please. This is because they grew up in an environment where their personal safety depended on the mood and emotions of adults who were expected to love and protect them.

Obviously, Ginger has her own vision for this book – as she did with her previous book. Not all Duggar critics share her priorities. But his insights about his own trauma could be interesting, even if Jim Bob hates not having control over the narrative.
