It’s been a week since Jinger Duggar’s long-awaited memoir hit bookstores, and for the most part, reaction to the book has been favorable.
It’s no surprise, as Jinger has long been one of the most beloved members of her famous family, and she played things relatively safe with her memoir.
Sure, she criticized her parents and their backward belief system, but it was clear that her comments came from a loving place, and most of Ginger’s comments about her dysfunctional family were complimentary.
Still, it seems not everyone was a fan.
Or at least fans think based on Jessa Duggar’s reaction — or lack thereof.
As you may already know, Jessa and her husband, Ben Seewald, feature prominently in Ginger’s book.
Ben served as a kind of spiritual guide for Ginger, with whom she grew up, thus introducing her to a kinder, gentler approach to Christianity than she had known before.
Perhaps because Jessa is such an important character in Ginger’s book, fans assumed she would be one of the first to publicly weigh in on the memoir.
But this has not happened.
Instead, when Jessa returned to Instagram after a brief hiatus this week, she was talking about a new educational app for her kids, and ignoring her sister’s literary debut.
Jessa’s latest post was just a harmless bit of sponsored content, but because she hasn’t yet praised her sister’s book, fans interpreted the post as passive-aggressive shade.
Some have even accused Jessa of attempting to steal her sister’s Vajra.
One commenter wrote, according to the UK tabloid, “Jessa can’t let Jinger be in the limelight.” Sun,
“Has Jessa accepted The Gingers Book yet? Really curious,” asked another.
“Stand by your sister,” demanded a third.
Jessa’s response is the exact opposite of Jill Duggar’s, who praised the book and thanked her sister for sending her a free copy.
“Look what came!” Jill told her Instagram followers.
“Thanks, Xingye, for sending me a copy of Becoming Free Indeed!”
So why would Jill enthusiastically endorse the book while Jessa — whose husband plays a central role in Ginger’s life story — remains silent?
The answer may be related to the nature of the two women’s relationships with their parents.
Jill has reportedly broken up with Jim Bob and Michelle, while Jessa is still in her good graces – and it looks like she’s hoping to stay there.
Jessa may be worried about standing up to her parents in the wake of Ginger’s memoir, and she may be worried about angering them further.
So it’s possible that Jessa has admired Ginger’s book in private, but has decided to keep her feelings to herself in public.
Whatever it is, we hope that Jinger’s decision to tell the world her story hasn’t come between her and her sister.
