Jeremy Vuolo hasn’t always been on the same page with his father-in-law, Jim Bob Duggar.
In fact, Jeremy had to struggle to get Jim Bob’s approval when he first met his future wife Jinger Duggar.
In the years since, the couple have gone their separate ways, and have often demonstrated beliefs and values that are at odds with Jim Bob’s worldview.
And now, Jeremy has shed some light on Jim Bob’s notoriously strict approach to religion and child-rearing.
Did Jeremy Vuolo criticize Jim Bob Duggar?
Earlier this week, Jeremy Costy appeared on Hinn’s “For the Gospel” podcast.
At one point the conversation turned to legalism — the belief that a person can achieve salvation by following certain rules.
Jeremy said, “If you really want to attack the character and nature of God, give your people a list of rules and say, ‘Climb this to heaven.’ Or, ‘Climb this, and he’ll still be happy with you.’” in touch,
“One of the consequences of legalism is that it distorts the character of God, and that’s satanic. It’s a satanic religion. All the laws that God has given us have love at their core.”
Jeremy never mentioned Jim Bob by name, but for obvious reasons, fans are assuming his comment was directed at his father-in-law.
Jim Bob’s bizarre belief system is primarily based on rules and punishments for breaking the rules.
It’s a way of life that Jeremy and Jinger proudly left behind when they moved to California.
Ginger tells her story
Last year, Ginger published a memoir in which she revealed her view of Christianity is very different from the one she had as a child.
“My faith is still intact, but it has changed. Rather than leaving the faith completely, I am setting it aside,” she wrote.
Jim Bob was a follower of the Institute in Basic Life Principles, an evangelical organization founded by disgraced guru Bill Gothard.
In a recent podcast interview, Ginger explained that her parents had an understanding of her rejection of Gothard’s extremist teachings.
“I remember Bill Gothard once told a girl that she had to follow in his ‘steps’ before she could come to Christ, and then she would have freedom,” Ginger said on the “Grace and Truth” podcast.
“So there were a lot of things that were taught throughout my education that my parents would either reject or throw out and say, ‘Kids, that’s not right.'”
Jinger’s relationship with her parents has had some ups and downs in recent years. But she hasn’t completely cut ties with Jim Bob and Michelle.
It seems that both parties have been able to put aside their differences. But Jeremy’s latest comments could put this arrangement in trouble.
