Jason Kelsey will gain some new fans when he criticises Prince William before he meets his brother.
And, perhaps, some royalist critics too.
Over the first weekend of summer, Taylor Swift posed with one of her fans — Prince William — when he and their two children were on hand to attend her performance in London.
Just days before Taylor (and Travis Kelce) met the Prince of Wales, Jason slammed the monarchy.
Prince William receives a royal tribute from Jason Kelsey
Sometimes, we have no choice but to stan.
On the Wednesday, June 19 episode of Travis and Jason Kelsey new heights In the podcast, Jason said some very true things about the monarchy.
And — to the surprise of anyone not familiar with the retired Philadelphia Eagles player — he didn’t mince words.
“I’m all for honoring kings,” Jason Kelsey said plainly, before pointing out that this is probably a core concept behind the United States.
“Listen, we’re Americans,” he argued. “We don’t do royalty.”
While America and its founding documents are filled with many flaws — from legal ambiguities to systemic oppression and a lack of foresight — rejecting the monarchy is something America has done absolutely right.
Apparently, Travis didn’t agree with Jason disrespecting the monarchy
Jason Kelsey then cracked a nasty joke, saying: “Damn the kings, but I don’t mind [my wife] Kylie is kneeling at my feet.” He also joked about the idea of people feeding him grapes.
For some reason, his brother Travis echoed his sentiment, almost pleading: “No ‘f–k kings.’”
It’s unclear why Travis Kelce held off on this, unless he was anticipating a potential encounter with royalty a few days later at Wembley Arena. Of course, Travis has made some mistakes before, so maybe he feels some sympathy for the UK institution.
To be fair, Travis No To oppose it would have been to agree that – at the risk of putting words in Jason’s mouth – the monarchy makes Britain an objectively worse place.
And if he were to meet a member of the British royal family in person, the situation could get awkward.
And, of course, they did just that. Travis appeared in a photo on Instagram with Taylor Swift, Prince William, Princess Charlotte, and Prince George.
The monarchy’s history with Taylor Swift
Prince William has met Taylor Swift before – back in 2013, in fact. It was a huge deal for Prince George and Princess Charlotte to see Taylor perform, let alone attend a royal meet-and-greet.
And this is where things get complicated. Because Jason is absolutely right about the monarchy, but that doesn’t mean he — or anyone — is blaming this family for the circumstances of their birth.
You can hate a person’s personality while acknowledging that in person the people seem pretty decent. Maybe not William or Charles and definitely not Andrew, but we all hope George and Charlotte had a good time.
