Looks like Jason Kelce isn’t going to get in trouble for his Penn State phone-slamming incident.
Earlier this autumn, a strange troll accused Jason Kelce of using homophobic slurs. The act was disgusting, but the context was extremely strange.
Although many people have defended the harasser for damaging his phone, it is generally illegal to destroy someone’s property.
However, authorities say the retired football player is out of custody.
No, Jason Kelce is not in trouble due to phone incident
According to Penn State University police tmzThe investigation into the Jason Kells encounter – which possibly involved a student – has now closed.
“The man in the video footage circulated on social media has not been identified,” a department spokesperson said. “And no one has come to the university police complaining of damage to private property.”
Most people would want to come forward if someone, let alone a celebrity, snatched their phone and threw it on the ground. But given the circumstances, it’s easy to see why someone might not want to admit that they are the person in question.
As you may remember, Jason Kelce was contacted by some rando back in November.
“Kels, how do you feel about your brother wanting to date Taylor Swift,” the troll said, using a homophobic slur in the process. (No, it doesn’t make sense in context)
Travis’ reaction was to snatch the unknown persons phone and throw it on the ground. Many considered this an appropriate and even concerning response to both Travis’ brother’s insult and use of the slur.
This wasn’t Jason Kelce’s finest moment
Soon after, Jason repeated the expletive – for which he apologized on ESPN.
“Listen, I’m not happy with what happened,” he confirmed. “I’m not proud of it.”
Jason said: “In a heated moment, I decided to welcome hate with hate and I don’t think that’s a productive thing. “I don’t really do that.”
Some people are critical of Jason responding to the troll, arguing that the words cannot justify damaging someone’s phone.
Of course, the counterargument is that the use of a homophobic slur – one of many slurs whose use has been on the rise in recent years, especially during the campaign of disgraced former (and future) President Donald Trump – changes the situation.
Abuses are not just words, and those who hurl them as weapons should expect retaliation. Of course, this also applies to Jason. No one seriously believes that Jason is anti-gay, and it’s good that he apologized… but he shouldn’t have used the slur in the first place.
He can probably put this strange, strange incident behind him
we still have Question About why the anonymous troll used a homophobic slur to specifically refer to Travis Kelce. A man dating a woman is generally not considered “gay”, no matter how many fans he has.
This reminds me of an infamous tweet in which a Twitter rando said A$AP was Rocky gay Or feminine In a photoshoot with Rihanna. This led to other social media users responding by asking if it was “gay” for Rihanna to get pregnant twice by a man.
Simply put, some people have lost the plot. But at least Jason Kelce is out of the woods… until his tormentor tries to take him to civil court, it’s assumed.
