Jana Duggar has always been one of the more quiet members of her famous family.
But while she’s never been a huge fan of the spotlight, for most of her career, Jana has kept an open line of communication with fans, and she really seems to enjoy keeping the public updated about her life.
Now, though, it looks like Jana wants nothing to do with her 750,000 followers.
As many fans have now noted, the 33-year-old hasn’t posted on Instagram in over a year.
It’s been 56 weeks since Jana last shared an update with followers, and fans are worried about what that absence could mean.
Did Jana, like many of her siblings, simply decide to keep a low profile in the wake of Josh Duggar’s arrest on child pornography charges?
Has she just realized that with the end of her family’s reality TV empire, there’s no need for her to be in constant self-promotion mode?
Or is something more insidious going on here?
Has Jana been forced by her overbearing parents to stop sharing updates with devoted fans?
The situation has become a hot topic of discussion on the Duggar-centric corners of Reddit, and fans can’t agree on the reason for Jana’s sudden disappearance.
“She hasn’t posted in almost a year, I wonder if her parents disowned her,” wrote one person.
“Blink twice if you are being held against your will…” joked another.
Others suggested that Jana may be participating in a strange ritual in which she vows to have zero contact with the opposite sex for an extended period of time.
He theorized that his social media hiatus could be a part of that bizarre experiment.
“I was listening/watching a filmed podcast that Ginger was on recently and she was describing how there is a rigid religion in their childhood that people make these agreements to be with the opposite sex for 10-15 years would adopt, and back then it was fairly common,” wrote one commenter.
“Gotthard would promote those committed to solitude for a certain period of time,” recalled another.
“Like she talks about kids and even 30-year-olds would be encouraged to do the same.”
Henchmen of Bill Gothard—who was Jim Bob’s personal spiritual mentor before he was forced to resign in disgrace—are notoriously secretive about their beliefs.
But in her recent memoir, Jinger Duggar confirms that Gotthard instructed his followers to shelter their daughters in the home until marriage.
Ginger wrote, “If you get the job or get kicked out, you are opening yourself up to the attacks of the devil because you don’t have an umbrella to protect you.”
Duggar women are generally not allowed to engage in social media, but an exception was made for Jana.
Now, sadly, it looks like her parents may have revoked her privileges.
