“He didn’t cause them any problems” – Pundit reveals he wasn’t impressed by 23-year-old Chelsea star in Leeds win

Sky Sports pundit Michael Dawson was not impressed by Chelsea attacker Kai Havertz’s performance against Leeds United. The Blues won the game at Stamford Bridge by a score of 1-0. Wesley Fofana, who was back in action after a long absence through injury, scored the only goal of the game from a corner.

The Blues finally won a league game after a five-game slump. While the result was certainly very welcome for Graham Potter’s side, Dawson was not convinced by Havertz’s performance.

He told Sky Sports News:

“Kai Havertz, he’s not a number nine… He doesn’t want to stay between the sticks… He just wanders around, and he didn’t cause them any trouble.”

Havertz took just one shot on goal, completed and attempted zero dribbles, and completed a cross during the game against Leeds United.

The former Bayer Leverkusen star, who was an important player for Chelsea during the early days of his club career, has struggled of late.

In 32 games this season, Havertz has scored just six goals and provided one assist. Since his arrival at Stamford Bridge in 2020, the Germany international has scored 29 goals and provided 15 assists in 124 appearances for the West Londoners.

Meanwhile, the Blues remained in 10th place despite their win. They currently have 34 points on the board after 25 league games.

Chelsea’s recent lack of form has increased the pressure on Graham Potter’s position as manager. The win against Leeds United was a temporary relief not just for Potter, but for the entire club.

Potter acknowledged and told the media after the match that the team deserved victory after suffering so much. Speaking after the game, Potter said (via The Guardian):

“Three points are good and three important points. It’s good for confidence and morale. The kids have been suffering because they care, they really do, and our fans have been suffering too. It’s been a difficult period so the win gives us a chance to bounce back and prepare for a great game on Tuesday.”

Graham Potter: “The players fought for the win and that allows us to keep going.” 🔵 #CFC“Players with me? It needs to manifest itself in victories. Talk is cheap. The results have not been good enough and that is my responsibility. We have to try to improve and win”. https://t.co/AbtmjjgAq6

The Blues will face Borussia Dortmund in the second leg of the UEFA Champions League round of 16 in their next game. Potter’s team lost the first leg at Signal Iduna Park by a score of 1–0.
