Eddie Murphy has been married and divorced more than once.
Eddie Murphy’s long career over the years has made him the go-to entertainer for several generations. He even has a federal law named after him – not for a crime of his own, but for something his character did on screen.
Additionally, Murphy has fathered several children and contributed to numerous charitable projects.
Not everyone is fully aware of the relationship history of this successful actor and comedian.
Eddie Murphy became a father even before his first marriage
In 1989, Eddie Murphy welcomed his first child, Eric, from Paulette McNeely, who was his girlfriend at the time.
A year later, in 1990, he and his then-girlfriend Tamara Hood welcomed their second child, Christian.
However, neither of these women was his first marriage. It happened only a few years later, although he met his future wife before Eric was born.
Eddie Murphy met Nicole Mitchell in 1988. The two (eventually) entered into a long-lasting relationship.
After first being introduced to each other at that year’s NAACP Image Awards, they became good friends.
Murphy and Michelle were together for two years before tying the knot in March 1993.
That marriage brought Eddie Murphy five children — and it was his first divorce
Eddie Murphy and Nicole Mitchell have a total of five children.
Those children are Bria, Miles, Shayne, Zola, and Bella.
In August 2005, after more than 12 years of marriage, Michelle filed for divorce from Murphy. Their divorce was finalized in April 2006. This was relatively quick as celebrity divorces go.
In 2006, Eddie Murphy began dating Mel B after his divorce – yes, Scary Spice of the Spice Girls fame. This is where things take a complicated turn.
When Mel B became pregnant, questions arose about paternity. When she gave birth to daughter Angel Iris Murphy Brown on April 3, 2007 (Eddie Murphy’s forty-sixth birthday), her representative announced that Murphy was the father.
By 2010, reports suggested that he was getting to know his daughter. In the beginning, at least according to Mel B, there was no such bond.
Then Eddie Murphy got married again
Eddie Murphy celebrated the new year by marrying producer Tracey Edmonds on January 1, 2008. Something like that.
Nearly two weeks later, they issued a public statement calling the ceremony a “symbolic union.” They emphasized that their relationship was not legally binding, TMZ It was reported at that time.
And it soon became clear that they had resolved to remain friends rather than continue as romantic partners. That must have been a weird January.
Eddie Murphy began dating Australian model Paige Butcher in 2012. Four years later, in May 2016, the couple gave birth to a daughter (Izzy).
Two years later, in November 2018, they welcomed a son (Max). Max’s middle name is Charlie, named after Murphy’s late brother.
In September of that year, just two months before Max was born, they were engaged to be married. By all accounts, this engagement has yet to end in any way that engagements usually end – breakup, death or marriage.
