Disney (New York Stock Exchange: DIS) and Pixar’s latest animated film, “Inside Out 2,” exceeded expectations, generating $62 million in domestic ticket sales on Friday, marking the biggest box office opening day of the year so far.
The Kelsey Mann-directed film’s record opening day gross also includes $13 million. generated from Thursday night’s previews.
With positive reviews, the $200 million sequel will be on track to surpass “Dune: Part Two” as the biggest domestic opening in 2024. Variety reported.
In March, Timothée Chalamet’s film, distributed by Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD), grossed $82.5 million in its opening weekend.
Friday’s haul could push “Inside Out 2” into the range of $140 million to $150 million domestically over Father’s Day weekend, among the top three openings for an animated film.
