(Reuters) – Democratic Sen. Jacky Rosen won re-election to the U.S. Senate in Nevada, Edison Research projected on Friday, keeping a competitive seat under her party’s control.
Rosen, 67, defeated Republican candidate Sam Brown, a U.S. Army veteran who received the Purple Heart after being wounded by a roadside bomb in Afghanistan.
The seat was a top priority for Republicans. Nevada has a large Hispanic population, a traditionally Democratic demographic in which former Republican President Donald Trump and his party have made significant gains.
