Candice Bergen criticizes JD Vance at the Emmys, questions his health

Candice Bergen put on a strong performance on Sunday night.

He did this in a somewhat low voice.

Viewers and attendees were left surprised at one point during the 2024 Emmy Awards when the veteran actress came on stage to present the trophy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series.

Bergen won the honor five times for her role as newscaster Murphy Brown in the TV sitcom of the same name.

Before revealing this year’s winner, Bergen took a dig at Republican vice presidential nominee J.D. Vance and referenced Murphy Brown’s most famous episode.

“For 11 years, I had the amazing privilege of playing the lead role in the comedy series Murphy Brown,” Bergen said to an enthralled audience that gave him a standing ovation.

“In a classic moment, my character was attacked by Vice President Dan Quayle after Murphy became pregnant and decided to raise the baby as a single mother.”

Bergen said sarcastically:

“Oh, how far we’ve come … Today, no Republican candidate for vice president would ever attack a woman for having children.”

The actress concluded her joke with a “meow,” referencing J.D. Vance’s infamous 2021 interview in which he said “childless cat ladies” were ruining America.

Bergen received attention not only for the joke, but also for the way he delivered it.

Many observers noted the star’s somewhat slurred and slow speech, leading to curiosity about his health status and general well-being.

A useful fact is that Candice Bergen is 78 years old.

But there’s one more thing: In 2006 he had a stroke.

Yes, that was a long time ago.

But Bergen said in 2012 that the stroke affected his memory, which was never the same after the incident.

The actress even said back then, “The reality is that I don’t look the same as I did before.” “I don’t care about it at all, and in a way it’s saved me.

Bergen emphasized this point in his 2015 memoir, writing:

“Let me put it simply – I am fat.

“In the last 15 years … I’ve gained 30 pounds. I live to eat. There’s no ‘eat to live’ thing for me.”

At 78, Bergen still lives to make us laugh, and all things considered, he’s in great shape.

We’re not sure if the same can be said about J.D. Vance.
