Brian Cox Responds to The Ultimate Succession Shocker: Did He See This Coming?

The best show on television is called Succession.

By definition of that simple word, viewers have known for three-plus seasons that Logan Roy β€” the polarizing patriarch of a mega-rich family that owns one of the world’s largest conglomerates β€” was about to die.

But – spoiler ALERT! – to happen in the third episode of this final season?

For Logan to die of an apparent heart attack on a private jet, away from his children, without ever actually seeing his body?

No one could have seen it coming.

including the actor who has portrayed Logan since the series premiere.

Cox said in an interview with The New York Times about receiving the news from the show’s creator, Jesse Armstrong, “He called me, and he said, ‘Logan is going to die. ‘”

“I thought, ‘Oh, it’s okay.’ I thought he’d die around episode 7 or 8, but episode 3, I thought… ‘Okay, that’s a little early.’

Succession now has seven episodes to show how Logan’s four children react to his death – and who, if any, will end up as his rightful heir.

Armstrong’s decision to kill off Roy so early in the final season was seen as “courageous” by Cox, who said that the producer understands that “the party should end when it’s at its height, not when it’s going down”. Be it.”

The battle for control of Vestar Royko will dominate the final installment of the drama.

For his part, Cox has said he legitimately doesn’t know who will come out on top.

“I think it’s going to be tough next week for a lot of viewers because they’re going to miss Logan.

“And I don’t think that’s a bad thing β€” I think it’s actually quite a good thing,” Cox told The New York Times.

β€œThe audience can be furious; They might remember Logan and say, ‘Oh, what are you doing killing off one of the most interesting characters?’

“But that’s fine by me,” he said, revealing that he has plans to make his directorial debut and return to the stage to star in “Long Day’s Journey Into Night” in London.

After being ambushed by his rebellious son Kendall at the end of Season 2, Logan Roy begins Season 3 in a precarious position, struggling to secure familial, political and financial alliances. Tensions rise as a bitter corporate battle threatens to turn into a family civil war.

Cox has been in the acting game for decades.

He ended the interview by putting his portrayal of Logan in perspective.

“Somebody like Logan, he’s become a cultural icon. But it’s a matter of where you go: I’ve been an actor for 60 years. I’ve done a great job.

,[Succession] It’s a very special job that I’ve had, and it’s given me so much, and I’m truly eternally grateful for that. But this is just a stop on the way. It’s not the destination as far as I’m concerned.”
