Country music’s biggest evening will be without one of the world’s biggest stars.
And the world is in shock as a result.
On Monday, September 6, the Country Music Association revealed the full list of nominees for the 58th Annual CMA Awards … with Morgan Wallen leading the way with a total of seven nominations.
And as for Beyoncé, she didn’t win a single award.
Not even one. Not even one.
This album’s closure is both sad and surprising, as only a short time ago Beyoncé made a critically acclaimed leap forward by releasing her first country music album.
It debuted at the top of the charts.
In March, the superstar explained the inspiration behind “Cowboy Carter,” saying the project was “born out of an experience I had years ago where I didn’t feel welcome.”
he adds:
“Because of that experience, I dove deep into the history of country music and studied our rich music archive.
“It’s wonderful to see how music can unite so many people around the world, while also amplifying the voices of those who have dedicated so much of their lives to educating us about our musical history.”
It’s safe to say Beyoncé once again doesn’t feel welcome in the genre.
Beyoncé’s latest album includes collaborations with country artists ranging from Post Malone and Shaboozie (who received two nominations today) to the genre’s pioneering singer Linda Martell.
Following its release on March 29, the “Cowboy Carter” album peaked at number one on the Billboard 200 and Beyoncé became the first black woman to top the Hot Country Albums chart.
The album also yielded top-10 hits on the Billboard Hot 100 with a modified cover of Dolly Parton’s “Jolene”, as well as “II Most Wanted” with Miley Cyrus.
After the nominations were announced, Shabooji posted on social media, “Thank you @Beyonce for opening a door for us, starting a conversation, and giving us one of the most innovative country albums of all time!”
The 58th Annual CMA Awards will air live from Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena on Wednesday, November 20 at 8/7c on ABC.
