Very terrible news came out of Hollywood this weekend:
Jeff Baena, a writer and director who was also married to actress Aubrey Plaza, has died in what law enforcement officials believe to be a suicide.
He was 47 years old.
Baena is probably best known for directing the horror-comedy “Life After Beth”, the dark comedy “Joshi” and the film director David O. Was best known for co-writing the cult classic “I Heart Huckabees” with Russell.
The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner confirmed the tragedy Saturday morning.
Baena was born and raised in Miami and later attended film school at New York University…soon after graduating he moved to Los Angeles to begin his career in entertainment.
In total, he has directed and/or written over a dozen feature films.
Baena started dating Plaza in 2011.
The couple kept their relationship extremely private for years, never even announcing their engagement or their wedding.
Most people didn’t know they became husband and wife until Plaza described Baena as her “beloved husband” in an Instagram post in May 2021.
“I’m so proud of my loving husband @jeffbena for dreaming up another movie that will take us to Italy to cause some more trouble,” the star’s caption at the time read.
According to various sources, the 47-year-old man was discovered in his home by an assistant.
The call informing him of his death came around 10:30 pm on Friday; The county medical examiner has not officially Cause determined.
