Jill Duggar has a new book in the works.
Nearly one year ago, Jill Duggar published her first memoir. Calculating the costThe title played on both of her family’s previous counting on Reality TV series and an excerpt from the Bible.
The book details Jim Bob Duggar’s control over his family. He has talked in detail about his childhood and reality TV stardom.
Now, fans and longtime Duggar watchers believe Jill is working on a new book. What is it about?
Jill Duggar is working on a new book
after Calculating the costJill Duggar and Derick Dillard were able to get out of debt.
A major source of irritation for the couple was Jim Bob’s financial gains from the family’s reality TV stardom. She revealed that he did give money to his kids … but not in a way she considered fair or equitable.
Calculating the cost was a bestseller. With the book’s success and obvious public interest, it’s not surprising that Jill hinted at book #2.
On the morning of Tuesday, September 10, Jill Duggar shared a new photo and caption on Instagram.
In the selfie she posted, Jill is seen at McDonald’s. Thanks to the food and Wi-Fi, these fast food restaurants (in some locations) are a favorite spot for writers who need to escape the distractions of home.
Jill was there with a coffee and laptop. Her caption read: “Drink coffee, off to work.”
‘Counting the Cost’ was Jill’s first book
In Calculating the costJill Duggar deeply understood the control Jim Bob exercised over her and her siblings. This continued into adulthood, where his main weapon was money.
Duggar’s critics have long pointed out how he “gifts” homes to obedient adult children – but only if they marry with his approval. And, as Jill has explained in interviews and in writing, he can afford these “generous” gifts by collecting the entire family’s reality TV income for himself.
This memoir differs from Jinger Duggar’s book in that it emphasizes separating her Christian beliefs from the oppression of the family cult. Jinger feels the main fear was that people would perceive Christianity as being just as toxic as Jim Bob’s version.
Topic, Calculating the costThe most obvious is a reference to 19 kids and counting And counting onHowever, it is also a reference to certain translations of Christianity’s holy book — specifically, the polarizing King James Version.
There is a passage in the Gospel of Luke that contains this phrase in some translations. “Counting the cost” has several meanings, but most often it means planning the cost of a project in advance so that someone doesn’t have to abandon it.
Interestingly, this passage also mentions having a “hatred” for her family – although many biblical scholars argue the contrary. A common interpretation is that this is a rhetorical hyperbole, and that the passage refers to placing her Christian faith before familial love. Still… Jill chose a very interesting title for her first book.
What is this second memoir about?
Obviously, Jill didn’t reveal what her potential second book would be about. We don’t technically know if it’s another memoir. It could be something else entirely, including a children’s book.
That being said, Jill probably knows fans will assume she’s working on another book about her life and her family. Whether or not that’s true, it seems like a good way to build publicity.
From Josh Duggar to her estrangement and beyond, Jill has no shortage of things to discuss.
