It was the slap heard ’round the world. And apparently, its echoes are still echoing almost two years later.
Yes, as we prepare for the announcement of the 2025 Oscar nominees, many are looking back at what may be the most memorable moment in awards show history.
Of course, we’re talking about the moment Will Smith slapped Chris Rock after the comic made a joke about Will’s wife Jada Pinkett Smith.
Insiders claim Will Smith still holds a grudge
Will didn’t suffer much consequences as a result of the slap. In fact, he won his first Oscar about an hour later.
He got a 10-year ban from the Oscars, but we doubt he’s too upset about that slap (pardon the pun) on the wrist.
However, despite the fact that Smith’s career progressed well last year Bad Boys: Ride or Die grossed over $210 million, proving that Will is still hot at the box office – it looks like he still holds a grudge against Chris.
“Will is having the last laugh and loving it,” an insider close to the situation tells us. in touch,
The source says Smith “will never forgive Chris for ruining his life, even though he’s managed to make up for some of the damage in the last year or so.”
The insider believes Will is still angry that the incident tarnished his good guy reputation.
Will apologized to Chris in a video shared in July 2022. But despite that act of remorse, the informant insisted that Smith’s feelings toward Rock had not changed.
“He still hates that guy and his smug attitude,” says the insider.
Any hopes of a reconciliation between the former friends may have been dashed before a standup special released by Chris in March 2023.
At the end of the hour, Rock scored a strong takedown on Smiths. And it came as no surprise to fans that the special was filmed in Jada’s hometown of Baltimore.
Not surprisingly, Will was (reportedly) less pleased.
The source added, “Chris is not the victim here in Will’s opinion.”
“Many people would agree with Will and think that what’s happening to Chris is karma for his refusal to talk to Will or accept his apology.”
So it looks like the Oscars’ most infamous feud isn’t over yet. It’s anyone’s guess whether Chris will be in attendance at this year’s ceremony — but if he is, he won’t have to worry about another face-off with Will.
