Ryan Edwards has been in the news a lot lately.
Usually that’s a bad thing, but this time it’s just headlines mostly Negative, rather than completely negative.
last month, Teen Mom: Family Reunion Therapist Coach Bee genuinely admires Ryan and reveals that he is trying to be a better father to his eldest child, Bentley.
It was a rare bit of friendly publicity for Edwards – and then came the inevitable scandal.
Just days after Coach B’s endorsement, Ryan accused his wife, Mackenzie Standifer, of cheating on Instagram.
He later retracted the allegation, but the incident is a clear indication that all is not well in the Edwards household.
But if there’s anyone who knows Ryan is a crappy parent/partner, it’s him. Everyone who watched Teen Mom OG Mackey Bookout.
While Ryan was fired from MTV years ago, Mackie is still appearing on the network, and during a recent appearance Teen Mom: Family ReunionShe shared her thoughts on her strained relationship with her baby daddy.
“I don’t have a relationship with Ryan right now. We’ve never co-parented. Co-parenting was done with his parents Jen and Larry,” she told co-star Cheyenne Floyd.
“When I was still co-parenting with Jen and Larry and we were dealing with all the Ryan shit, I was in a place of kind of turmoil because I’m like, Is it healthy for him to be there?” Mackey asked, referring to his teenage son, Bentley.
Mackey explored these feelings during an exercise in which Coach B instructed the women to run while wearing weighted vests—each weight representing a source of stress in their lives.
Not surprisingly, Macy’s weight gain was representative of the constant drama she endures as a result of Ryan.
“My relationship with Jane and Larry exploded. I try not to think about it,” she said.
“I hope we can get to a better place that’s realistic but who knows?”
In the previous episode, the women were instructed to write their grievances on an ax and symbolically buried it in the soil.
Macy states that her anger is mostly directed at Ryan, but not because she harbors any grudges about his past.
Rather, he is angry on behalf of his son, and angry with himself for allowing Bentley to be mistreated.
“I think because of my choices in relationships, it hurts everybody. Everybody who loves me, it hurts,” Mackie said.
Needless to say, Mackey is almost as big on self-blame as Coach B is on heavy-handed symbolism.
But the good news is that these scenes were filmed before Coach B worked with Ryan and gave him a pep talk.
So he may have permanently turned over a new leaf.
We doubt it, but anything is possible!
