Trump has given dubious honors to Mel Gibson, Sylvester Stallone and Jon Voight.
Carrie Underwood isn’t the only famous person with a disgusting decision. This is worryingly common.
Despite the recent and devastating Los Angeles fires, Trump is still taking aim at Hollywood.
He is naming the three ousted actors as “special ambassadors” to the entertainment industry. What does it mean?
Trump announces Jon Voight, Mel Gibson and Sylvester Stallone as ‘special ambassadors’
On Thursday, January 16, Donald Trump took to his ironically named Truth Social microblogging platform to share some news.
The notorious criminal announced, “It is my honor to announce Jon Voight, Mel Gibson and Sylvester Stallone as special ambassadors to a great but very troubled place, Hollywood, California.”
Trump then announced: “They will serve as my special envoy for the purpose of bringing back Hollywood, which has lost so much business to foreign countries over the past four years – bigger, better and stronger than ever before! “
“These three extremely talented people will be my eyes and ears,” Trump claimed.
Then he threatened: “And I will do whatever they suggest.” This is vague yet terrifying!
“It will be the Golden Age of Hollywood again, just like in the United States!” Trump created an uproar.
Why did Trump choose Mel Gibson, Sylvester Stallone and Jon Voight?
These are not the three actors that come to most people’s minds. Almost anytime.
Although we hate to speculate on what Donald Trump’s thought process would be at this point, it’s likely that he views these people as his allies.
From Voight’s notorious politics to Stallone calling him “the second George Washington” to Gibson’s famous bigotry scandals, they seem to be relatively like-minded to Trump.
Although Donald Trump clearly wants the admiration and friendship of the most famous and beautiful people in the entertainment industry, he will never get it. And it is possible that he may have realized this.
At his core, Trump is a guy who wants to be liked. If the people whose attention he wants to attract hate him for his behavior, politics, and crimes, he will seek approval wherever he can get it. That means actors many had forgotten were still alive, and that means hordes of people whom Trump would soon avoid under other circumstances.
Why didn’t Trump choose someone like Trump-supporter Zachary Levi? It is unclear whether he knows who he is. Trump was born in the 40s. He would probably feel more comfortable talking to older actors who feel they are somehow oppressed by their own industry.
What does ‘Special Envoy’ mean?
It is not clear what “special ambassador” might mean in this context. “Hollywood” is simply a part of Los Angeles that is associated with the entertainment industry. This is not a foreign government. There are no political embassies involved.
However, Trump has continued to threaten his critics, from television networks to late-night hosts. He intends to take advantage of all the political power of the White House to silence his perceived enemies and to “punish” those whose words have hurt his feelings. It could be something else like that too.
This is only a small part of America’s grim destiny in the years to come. The good news is that it’s not clear what showrunners like Jon Voight, Sylvester Stallone and Mel Gibson might do — even if Trump is supporting them.
