Justin Thomas returns to action for the first time in 2025. After a bit of a down year in 2024, Thomas looks to start the new PGA Tour season on the right foot. He may do so by having a rather unique practice session before the Sentry this weekend.
Thomas hosted a junior golf clinic during his practice outing in Maui before today’s tee time for the first round. Several young golfers came to watch and learn from the PGA star during his practice round.
The kids took turns asking him questions, like whether or not he could swing like Happy Gilmore or if he’d ever done a Eurostep to celebrate a made putt. He also invited some kids to compete against him in competitions while he practiced.
He later said:
“I really feel like it wasn’t that long ago and it’s also been a long time since I was in their shoes, so if a couple of these kids here can become the future of golf and play in the LPGA or the PGA, then that’s pretty cool. in the future someday.”
The Sentry tournament publication referred to them as the “local keiki.” Keiki is a term for a baby orchid plant that grows asexually from a flower stem or pseudobulb of a mature orchid. It is used colloquially to refer to children in Hawaii.
At the time of writing, Thomas had yet to play Sentry, while a couple of other golfers, including Tom Hoge and Harry Hall, had completed their first holes to open the 2025 season.
Justin Thomas excited for 2025 after Presidents Cup snub
Justin Thomas, a longtime standout for Team USA in both the Ryder Cup and Presidents Cup, did not make the 2024 Presidents Cup team. The snub has him excited to play with a bit of resentment this anus.
In conversation with The Athletic, he said:
“I haven’t had a chance to play angry in a while, so I’m really excited to play a little angry this year.”
He understood the decision and even took it so well that he was able to joke with captain Jim Furyk about it. He sent Furyk several text messages to tease him about his decisions for the team.
Justin Thomas also posted frequently about this, adding that he felt like he had a relationship with Furyk to do it.
“I’m glad they won and I rooted for them like crazy, but luckily we’re close enough that I feel like I can do it and he won’t be too upset,” she added.
The USA and International teams traded undefeated days before the United States put together a strong final round to secure the victory.
