India’s star pacer Jasprit Bumrah was named the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) Player of the Series 2024-25, making history as the first Indian player to achieve this feat in three SENA countries. Meanwhile, Australia clinched the series 3-1, sealing their victory with a dominant six-wicket win in Sydney.
Bumrah was absent during the fourth innings of the fifth Test against Australia due to a back spasm. Despite this, he was the standout player of the series, finishing with 32 wickets in nine innings, an impressive average of 13.06 and three five-wicket hauls.
The 31-year-old also created history by surpassing Bishan Singh Bedi’s 47-year-old record of most wickets taken by an Indian bowler in an away Test series.
His outstanding performance earned him the well-deserved Player of the Series award, making him the only Indian cricketer to achieve this feat against three SENA countries.
Bumrah claimed the prestigious honor during India’s 2022-23 tour of England, where he took 23 wickets in five matches. He also won the award during India’s 2023-24 tour of South Africa, having taken 12 wickets in two matches.
“A little frustrating, but sometimes you have to respect your body”: Jasprit Bumrah gives update on his fitness after the fifth test of BGT 2024-25
Stand-in Indian captain Jasprit Bumrah addressed his decision not to bowl during the fourth innings of the fifth Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25, stressing the need to listen and respect the limits of his body. In the post-match conference, the 31-year-old, named Player of the Series, said:
“A little frustrating, but sometimes you have to respect your body and you can’t fight it. Sometimes you have to accept. I would have loved to bowl on the hottest wicket of the series. I just felt a little unwell after the first entries.”
“The talk revolved around belief. The other players also stepped up in the first innings. This morning the talk was also about faith. Lots of ifs and buts. The entire series was well fought. Today we were also there. “It was a very hard-fought series,” he added.
Bumrah has represented India in 45 Tests, taking 205 wickets, including 13 five-wicket hauls.
