India all-rounder Washington Sundar shared a flurry of pictures on social media from the Gabba in Brisbane ahead of the third Test between India and Australia, starting on December 14. The cricketer uploaded some old pictures of the venue, where India completed a historic three-wicket victory during the 2020-21 tour, winning the series 2-1.
Sundar also shared a photo of his pet dog named after the place – Gabba. Washington Sundar captioned his Instagram post:
“Gabba (bat ball emoji).”

Notably, Sundar made his Test debut in Brisbane, scoring 62 and 22 in his two outings. He shared a 123-run partnership with Shardul Thakur for the seventh wicket in the first innings to help the visitors claw their way back into the contest. The off-spinner also bagged four wickets in the match.
“Washington Sundar can replace R Ashwin” – Cheteshwar Pujara picks his India change XI for Brisbane Test
Indian cricketer Cheteshwar Pujara picked Washington Sundar ahead of Ravichandran Ashwin in his India playing XI for the Brisbane Test. The 36-year-old said the tourists needed to strengthen their batting after being eliminated twice in Adelaide. He recently told Star Sports:
“I feel like only one change could happen. Since the batting was not good, Washington Sundar can replace R Ashwin. Should someone come instead of Harshit Rana? In my opinion, no. You backed him up and he performed well in the first game.”
Sundar returned with scores of 4 and 29 and took two wickets in the first Test at Perth, where India won by 295 runs. In total, the 25-year-old has 24 wickets and 387 runs, including three half-centuries, in seven Tests.
Meanwhile, Pujara backed Harshit Rana despite going wicketless in the second Test. He said:
“He is a good bowler. You can’t leave him alone because a match went wrong. Probably the only change for me would be Sundar for Ashwin if the team feels there is a need to strengthen the batting line-up.”
Harshit Rana finished with 0/86 in his 16 overs in the second Test.
