Robert Lewandowski has reportedly urged Barcelona not to sign Lille striker Jonathan David in the summer of 2025. This is according to a report from The Nationalwho claim that the Polish ace does not want to compete for minutes in the number nine position.
The media adds that the intervention of the former Bayern Munich striker could mean that the Blaugrana do not sign the Canadian. It would be an important decision, given that Lewandowski is now 36 years old and has a contract with his team only until the summer of 2026.
On the other hand, the acquisition of David would be very reasonable, as he would be available for free in 2025, once his contract with Lille expires. The 24-year-old has also made a good start to the current campaign, scoring 17 goals and four assists in 24 games across competitions. Barcelona would also be a suitable club to join as the team is currently searching for a long-term successor to Lewandowski.
To date, Lewandowski has made 117 appearances in all competitions for the Spanish giants, scoring 82 goals and 19 assists in the process. He managed to win the LaLiga title once and won the Pichichi trophy once since arriving at Barcelona in the summer of 2022 from Bayern Munich for €45 million.
Lewandowski also continues to contribute greatly to Hansi Flick’s cause, having scored 23 goals in 22 appearances in all competitions this campaign.
Barcelona linked with move for Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres – Reports
Barcelona’s links with potential attacking options are certainly not limited to just Jonathan David. Reports in Portugal continue to link Sporting number nine Viktor Gyokeres with Camp Nou (via beIN Sports).
However, this move certainly won’t be cheap or without competition from other clubs in Europe. The Swedish international will cost between 68 and 78 million euros.
Furthermore, the player seems to have caught the attention of Premier League clubs such as Arsenal, Manchester City and Manchester United. Gyokeres may be drawn to Old Trafford, given his time spent under current Red Devils boss Ruben Amorim at Sporting.
The 26-year-old has put up brilliant numbers this season, scoring 25 goals in 23 appearances in all competitions. At the moment, he has a contract with the Portuguese team until the summer of 2028.
