And there is a very physical component to the family’s grieving process.
It’s been a year since the death of Mama June’s daughter, Anna Cardwell.
Amidst their grief, the family brings his ashes with them whenever they leave home.

Just a week before the one-year anniversary of Anna Cardwell’s tragic passing, June Shannon discusses how the family treats her late eldest daughter’s ashes.
Some families scatter the ashes in nature – sometimes, illegally. Other families keep the ashes in a cremation urn at home. Sadly, some loved ones end up tucked away in unlabeled plastic containers in cabinets.
As Mama June explained in her Facebook post, she and other families bring Anna’s bodies with them while at work.
talking to PeopleMama June is now detailing how the family is treating Anna’s ashes.
“For me, personally, we carry her urn with us everywhere, and I’m talking about the entire urn,” she explained.
“People might think I’m crazy,” June admitted. “But we are talking about the entire Kalash. We’re not talking about a little baby urn.”
‘We don’t fly with a big vase’
Anna Cardwell’s battle against stage 4 adrenal carcinoma lasted only 10 months. He died in December 2023, leaving behind two daughters and a grieving family.
“We all wear jewelery [with her ashes] We have that,” specified Mama June. “But the big vase, if we’re driving somewhere, it goes with us.”
She noted one big exception: “Now, are we going to fly with him? No,” he said. “But we fly with him carrying the jewellery. “We don’t fly with big vases.”
“If we’re flying, no, she’s not left in the house,” June assured.
“What we usually do is, we take him to the car, we’ll leave him in the car parked in the parking lot,” she explained. “And then she stays there for a week.”
June added: “Because we don’t want to fly with him and then take him away. “We don’t want to take that risk.”
“We went to Colorado, she went to Alabama, she’s going to South Carolina this weekend,” June said quickly. “So just keep that part like, ‘Okay, Anna is in the car.'”
Specifically, Alana Thompson is attending college in Colorado.
“Or we went to Justin’s mom in Alabama last week and I said, ‘Well, shoot, we brought Anna here,'” he added as an example.
Mama June shares Anna’s one wish she didn’t fulfill
Stating that Anna Cardwell “loves being in the spotlight,” she admitted that “if that’s the case.” [had been] On top of that, we would have streamed his funeral.”
June elaborated: “That’s what he and we wanted [were] Like, ‘No, no.’ This was the only wish that we did not fulfill when he passed away.”
He shared that he hopes Anna’s memory will live on among fans just as it does with the family.
