Russian airstrike kills one person, damages energy facilities in Odessa, Ukraine By Reuters


kyiv (Reuters) – A Russian airstrike hit a residential building and power facilities on Thursday afternoon in and near the Ukrainian Black Sea port of Odessa, killing one person, injuring 10 and destroying a boiler plant. used for heating, officials said.

“A multi-storey residential building was destroyed in the center of Odessa, apartments were set on fire, high-rise apartments and about 30 cars were damaged,” Odessa regional governor Oleh Kiper said on Telegram.

“Enemy fire also damaged the central heating main pipeline. The boiler plant was temporarily closed and repair work is underway.”

Odessa Mayor Hennadiy Trukhanov said the attack temporarily left more than 40,000 people without heat. The heating infrastructure of one of the city’s maternity hospitals was also damaged.

Engineers completed the repairs in the morning and heating will be resumed for affected consumers in the next few hours, Trukhanov added.

Ukraine’s air force said it shot down 25 of 29 drones and one of two Kh-59/69 guided missiles launched by Russia during a night attack.

Odessa has been a frequent target of Russia in the more than two-and-a-half-year war, as have port facilities located near the city.
