Michael Strahan and the national anthem “Etiquette”

On Sunday, November 10, Fox Sports showed the NFL on Fox Talking Heads at Naval Base San Diego.

The unholy union of sports and the US military has a long history – but, in this case, it was a special Veterans Day broadcast and thus completely appropriate.

As part of the tribute, the star Spangled Banner Played. This is where Strahan “got into trouble” with some viewers.

During the Fox Sports segment, which appeared on Twitter and beyond, various big names in attendance placed their hands over their hearts while the national anthem played.

Michael Strahan stood quietly and respectfully during the star Spangled BannerHowever, his hands were folded in front of him, with zero hands in front of his heart.

And that’s about it – but of course, that’s where the story begins.

As soon as the video began circulating, sharp reactions followed, with many criticizing Michael for not placing his hand over his heart – as the US Code of Conduct insists that one should do so.

Bizarre trolls criticize Michael Strahan in the name of ‘patriotism’

Michael Strahan’s solemnly standing during the national anthem was “disrespectful,” according to a flood of furious social media commentators.

One angry viewer said, “Michael Strahan shouldn’t be on that stage.” “He cannot even show proper respect to our service men and women. Disgraceful!”

“Fire Strahan,” demanded another tweet.

Another tweet screamed: “IF YOU CAN’T RESPECT OUR MILITARY, YOU SHOULD BE REMOVED FROM NFL ON FOX!! Goodbye Strahan!!

Now, some people may see this as a strong overreaction; We agree. While Section 301(b) of Title 36 of the U.S. Code states that when the national anthem is played, “all persons present should face the flag and stand at attention with their right hand over the heart,” not doing so But a person should not become a villain immediately.

In defense of Michael

And just for the record, Michael Strahan did not disrespect the United States military. In fact, he was in attendance paying tribute to past and present members of the United States military. Some might call it “honor” or, dare we say, “respect” for soldiers.

He was also seen talking to and thanking the service members present, more than anyone else on the panel.

It is easy to gravitate towards bitterness and hatred in these divisive times. Sad to see so many doing this. In the same way it’s sad to see so many people rejecting Colin Kaepernick for exercising his American right to protest, by the way, no one is saying Michael is doing that.

Because here’s the thing… whether or not he found himself criticized on a dying social media platform, Michael Strahan took to Instagram to share a more personal tribute.

Because the need for vets is a really important issue to Michael.

Yes, he posted his tribute on Veterans Day

Now might be a good time to mention that Michael Strahan has a close relationship with his humanitarian father, the late Major Gene W. Strahan, Sr. served in the Army for 23 years. He was “a proud member of the 82nd NS Airborne Division.”

Other than this, GMA The co-host grew up on a U.S. Army base in Germany, where his father was stationed. He also does a lot of work in his spare time, including charity work in which he helps connect retired military veterans and retired athletes.

Even if becoming a sports broadcaster required some kind of tribute ritual – and it usually isn’t – Michael Strahan is clearly a Giants fan. There are people in this world who are always looking for someone to hate without any reason. And they will always find their goal.
