Herd Hierarchy: Colin Cowherd picks his top 10 sports sidekicks

Every Batman needs his Robin, even in the world of sports.

And with Scottie Pippen, arguably the most famous Robin of them all, making headlines of late, Colin Cowherd decided this week to define exactly what makes a great sports partner, and of course to provide some clarity on what makes Batman. a Batman and Robin a Robin.

“[Scottie Pippen] He always wanted to be seen as one, paid as one, get all of one’s accoutrements, one’s respect, but if he played poorly, he wouldn’t be around for the hard questions,” Cowherd said.

On Tuesday’s episode of “The Herd,” Cowherd attempted to rank the top 10 sports buddies of all time, with none other than Mr. Pippen coming in at number 10.

Let’s see how his entire roster rocked:

10. SCOTTIE PIPPEN

Outstanding races: Six-time NBA Champion, seven-time NBA All-Star

Bat Man: Michael Jordan

Cow shot: “We started using the term with him. I would say he’s a much better defensive player than he actually was a skilled offensive player, but [Scottie Pippen] he was a great Robin, and he always understood that he was Michael’s team. Michael fired the last shot.”

9. ROB GRONKOWSKI

Outstanding races: Five-time Pro Bowler, four-time Super Bowl champion

Bat Man: tom brady

Cow shot: “[Rob Gronkowski] he is arguably the best tight end of all time. … Brady to Gronk is the most prolific touchdown duo in the NFL [postseason] history, with 14”.

8. JOHN STOCKTON

Outstanding races: 10-time NBA All-Star, nine-time NBA assists leader

Bat Man: karl malone

Cow shot: “Karl Malone finishes in the top five scorers of all time… We never talk about [Stockton] in Robin’s conversation. He is one of the top five point guards in history. … Solid rock.”

7. LOU GEHRIG

Outstanding races: Two-time MVP, six-time World Series champion, Yankees captain

Bat Man: babe ruth

Cow shot: “On those teams with Ruth, there were times where he was actually the better player.”

6. DWYANE WADE

Outstanding races: 13-time All-Star, three-time NBA champion

Bat Man: LeBron James, Shaquille O’Neal

Cow shot: “On ‘The Heatles,’ he was a Robin… He was never a great shooter. He was always kind of the soul of a team, but he wasn’t as dominant when Shaq came along and they won. He wasn’t as physically dominant as LeBron when they won.” .

5.BILL BELICHICK

Outstanding races: Six-time Super Bowl Champion, three-time NFL Coach of the Year

Bat Man: tom brady

Cow shot: “Now we can say it was a minimum of 60-40 [Tom] brady about [Bill] Belichick. Bill struggled to win in Cleveland without Brady. He couldn’t win early in New England without Brady, and he couldn’t win last year without Brady.”

4. KAREEM ABDUL-JABBAR

Outstanding races: Six-time NBA Champion, 19-time NBA All-Star, six-time NBA MVP

Bat Man: magical johnson

Cow shot: “Yes, the leading scorer in league history was a Robin on the ‘Showtime Lakers.’ When you see the best moments of the ‘Showtime Lakers,’ it’s almost all Magic… It was really the Magic team.”

3. MESSIER BRAND

Outstanding races: Six-time Stanley Cup Champion, 15-time NHL All-Star

Bat Man: wayne gretzky

Cow shot: “When I was in Edmonton, that was one of the greatest hockey teams of all time. Gretzky, ‘The Great One,’ was No. 1. Messier was one of the top five players in the sport, maybe the top three. He was both… One of the great tough guys of all time. He knew how to skate, he was tough, he could score.”

2. JERSEY RICE

Outstanding races: Three-time Super Bowl Champion, 13-time Pro Bowler, all-time leader in receiving yards and touchdown receptions

Bat Man: joe montana

Cow shot: “It was the Montana dynasty. Nobody disputes that. Montana was the MVP of the Super Bowls.”

1.KOBE BRYANT

outstanding careers– Five-time NBA Champion, two-time NBA Finals MVP, 18-time NBA All-Star

Bat Man: Shaquille O’Neal

Cow shot: “During the rivalry between Shaq and Kobe, Shaq was the better player. If it hadn’t been for the free throws, I would have made all the shots late. It was Shaq’s team… [Kobe was] one of the top 10 players I’ve ever seen, but in that dynasty, Kobe was seen as both. He was very, very young. That’s the best Robin of all time.”
